Desires of a Baron (Historical Regency Romance) by Rose Gordon

Giles Goddard, Lord Norcourt is odd. Born with his life's cord wrapped around his neck and sent away to Ireland to be raised in an orphanage run by nuns, he's known nothing but the cold sting of being misunderstood and altogether unwanted. But that's all about to change...

Lucy Whitaker is a fallen woman who has done her best to build a life for her and her son. But when her son finds a battered gentleman left on the side of the road, her entire world is about to come crashing down as she once again finds herself caught between two brothers: an heir and a spare.

Will Lucy's dislike for nobility forever keep her from eternal happiness or can Giles convince her to follow her heart and take a chance on loving a baron?

Desires of a Baron by Rose Gordon Gentleman of Honor Series Book 2 Giles Goddard, Lord Norcourt sort of lives in his own little world. He'd be fine if most people left him alone there. Like his mother for instance. And all those senseless chattering young ladies that had been paraded in front of him. When he meets Lucy and her son Seth, he finds that he can enjoy being around others. Lucy Whitaker was at her wits end. Her eleven year old son thought he needed a father and was starting to take the matter into his own hands. He just didn't understand enough about life, or men. And he had no clue that being born out of wedlock as he was would make his whole life a lot tougher. One thing Lucy had learned and learned well, you cannot trust the aristocracy. If she repeated it enough she'd remember that Giles was one of them. Giles is such a lovable character. I fell for him in Secrets of Viscount and have awaited his story, I was not disappointed. Giles may be on the slower side, but when people take time to know him, they find the treasure inside. Giles and Lucy may be have been born on opposite sides of the spectrum but their lives are more alike than they realize. **Sexual content within marriage

I like how the author created flawed characters with the "happy ever after" they both deserved. The plot is well-developed along with the twists and turns that keeps it connected with the other books in this series. As a regency romance fan, a story created with creativity and research is a must because building a world with lords and ladies is never easy. This doesn't disappoint. Highly recommended!

I think this was a good book but it was missing big sections. It would have been much better if I had gotten to read the whole thing. Disappointed....

DESIRES OF A BARON by Rose Gordon is an exciting Regency Historical Romance set in England. #2 in "The Gentlemen of Honor" series, but can be read as a stand alone. See, "Secrets of a Viscount". Follow, Giles Goddard, Lord Norcourt and Lucy Whitaker on a journey of passion, love and romance. Lucy was first introduce in "Liberty for Paul". She is a fallen woman, an unwed mother with a son, Seth, and she feels unworthy of love...until... Giles Goddard, is found beaten by her son and left on the side of the road, while, life changes. Once again, Lucy is caught between two brothers, an heir and a spare. She chose badly once before and chose the wrong brother. Can Giles convince Lucy to let go of her mistrust and love again? Fast paced tale of romance, letting go of the past, finding true love and happiness. An emotional tale, with a satisfying ending. I enjoy Ms. Gordon's tales of love and romance. She is a wonderful storyteller. Well written with engaging characters, an intriguing as well as interesting tale of two people looking for love and happiness. Well done! Received for an honest review from the author. RATING: 4.5 HEAT RATING: MILD REVIEWED BY: AprilR, courtesy of My Book Addiction and More

Lucy Whitaker is an unwed mother that lives in a small village with her eight year old son who one day finds a wounded man that was left on the side of the road. Lucy and her son, Seth carry the man to her modest home and nurse him back to health. When Simon Appleton regains consciousness he tells Lucy to inform his stepbrother, Giles Goddard, Lord Norcourt. Simon begins to have feelings for Lucy during his brief stay with her and her son who desperately wants his mother to remarry so he can have a father. Seth’s biological father, Sam the heir to a title was a childhood friend who Lucy fell in love with and at the age of 17 believed was going to marry her. That was not to be and His brother Paul offered her marriage but refused when she still believed that Sam intended to ask for her hand in marriage. Alas, Lucy found herself pregnant and alone. Needless to say Lucy has no use for nobility and does not want to get involved with a titled gentleman let alone his brother, Enter Giles Goddard, Lord Norcourt, to retrieve his wounded stepbrother. Both Simon and his recently discovered brother, Giles, find themselves attracted to Lucy and vie for her attention and much more. Giles was born with his life’s cord wrapped around his neck causing him to be slow to walk, slow to talk and worst of all slow to comprehend. His father Lord Norcourt was mortified to have a son that was considered simple and sent his son away to an orphanage to be raised by nuns. Having been left alone and not understanding why his mother no longer wants him, Giles remains estranged from his mother until he takes over his father’s title and his mother remarries and he learns he has a stepbrother. The two brothers have an instant dislike for each other. They both want Lucy, Seth wants a father and Lucy doesn’t want to relive the past mistake she once made. I have always been a fan of this author and just like all her other books this one does not disappoint. Rose Gordon has a way of endearing her characters to the reader through insightful dialogue and a plot that is never the norm. Giles slow comprehension of situations is written in such a way that we do not pity him but admire the way he has adapted and accepted his disability with pride. The author is able to infuse a light humor to his character as we learn through his thought process how he literally tries to understand expressions that are commonly used but don’t make sense (i.e. “getting sacked” – He tries to understand why they use that term because the person isn’t really put in a sack). It is not the perfection but the flaws of the characters that the reader will fall in love with.
