Desire Unleashed is a sensually captivating story that is set in a world where supernatural creatures live out in the open. The alliance between humans and supernaturals uneasy and when there is a threat to the city help will come from two unlikely heroes. D.N. Simmons has created an erotic, romantic, action-packed, and suspenseful story that has relationships in every form you can think of. The beauty of this story is that she does not hold back. Whether the characters are humans or supernatural, she is brutally honest whether it is in the romance or the action. You will devour page after page until you get to the end and wish for more! With the many characters in this story there is a lot of potential for many more stories in the Knights of Darkness Chronicles. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Well, this book is very interesting to say the least. If you are squeamish about (male/male) homosexuality then it may not be for you. That part was a shock to me. The description was saying explicit material but It was no worse than any other romance book just guy on guy. Anyway, I did like the book. Once I figured out how all the characters fit together it really got good but then the book was over. I was not sure if I could get with all these gorgeous guys being gay but I did and I have to find out how Natasha plays this, LOL. It was really interesting. Not sure if I will read the next one but I am in love with Darian and Xavier and I am wondering how they are going to work everything out. I am interested in the wolfs and how they will come into play but I like the plot a lot. I think now that I have been introduced to the characters I am better prepared for the series. But, I am not sure if the focus will being any heterosexual action which I would like.

I like that the supernatural community isn’t a secret in this series. They may not be completely open with humans, but there are no cover-ups, etc. with respect to supernatural crimes. Simmons took a rather standard view of supernaturals, gave it a few good twists, and created a phenomenally unique and captivating story. All of the characters in this novel are extremely unique and so completely different from one another that it is easy for the reader to keep everything straight when the author flips from scene to scene and character to character. The writing and descriptive styles actually change while writing about each of the different groups of characters. It’s almost as if you can picture different colours to go with each of the groups, packs, prides, or covens. That said, the story as a whole flows very fluently so that when the different storylines begin to come together, the colours merge into a collage that you are completely captivated in. He characters in this novel were extremely well developed. Simmons didn’t skip over a single aspect of anyone, making each and every character completely unique. She also didn’t waste time developing a secondary cast because it wasn’t necessary. The main characters in this story were more than strong enough, and plentiful enough, to carry the story on their own merits. I must say, however, that there are a few characters in this story who’s role I don’t really understand. When present in the story they were very commanding and captivating. However, they seem to serve no purpose other than a distraction from the main storyline. I can only assume that they become more important further on in the series.  I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this story. I love how Simmons played with darkness and light, passion and hate, family and friendships to create a story that will leave you reeling and wanting oh so much more. Please note that I received this novel from the author in exchange for an honest review

"AMAZING. I am in LOVE. This book was wonderful! The author has created an amazing world full of a vast variety of paranormal creatures. Gay, bisexual, straight, were, vamp… the possibilities are endless. Being a character driven story, you get to know each and every character (and there are quite a few!), their quirks, sexuality, flaws, likes, dislikes and background. The two main detectives, Warren and Matthew are my favorite characters. Funny, with great chemistry, they are perfect in their roles. The secondary characters that the author has created add so much to the story as well. The crimes that are committed are grisly, and the author holds nothing back when it comes to the gruesome case that the detectives are trying to solve. Part mystery/thriller and part paranormal romance, the story is unique - intense yet extremely passionate. It’s a gripping, wild ride that will have you hanging on from start to finish. I absolutely cannot wait to read more! Reviewed by Marie for Cocktails and Books

This is a hot book. The title really covers the underlying theme of the entire story while the main story is about a series of supernatural murders. In this world, supernatural creatures have been revealed/discovered. They didn't want to be known to the public, but people with a lot of power figured out they existed and shared it with the rest of the world. Humans have been very violent towards them. However, supernatural creatures have retaliated which has brought about four new laws to defend both the human race and supernatural races. This has also resulted in the creation of S.U.I.T., a special team of cops with divisions in every state who investigate anything deemed supernatural. Two of the main characters of the story are from the S.U.I.T. and are searching for the illusive murderer who seems to be able to hide all evidence while leaving a only a headless body. The other main characters are Natalie, Annette, Darian, And Xavier. Darian and Xavier are very wealthy vampires while Annette is an ex-stripper in Darian's club, and Natalie is Annette's best friend. You will learn that Natalie is very special and plays a key role in helping find the murderer. The relationships between all of these characters are very interesting and personally will leave you blushing. I have not read anything that had actual guy on guy content previously, but this book is pretty full of it. It was eye opening for me. I can't say I was crazy about it because I prefer to think that my supernatural men will actually want me more than their best guy friend. However, this was very well written and if you are into that sort of thing, you will love it. Read more reviews at Identity Discovery blog.

I received a complimentary copy of this book as a part of a book tour in exchange for a fair and honest review. I rated it 3.5 Stars. Shapeshifters, Vampires, and humans co-exist in a tenuous relationship in D.N. Simmons' Desires Unleashed. From the first page the well developed characters, good dialogue, and political and social aspects of this story grabbed my attention. Ms. Simmons' world building, while typical for this genre, was well developed and the action in the story kept the plot's pace moving and entertaining. In a world where the supernatural have been exposed and live among mankind, rules are considered a necessary evil to keep the peace. Humans, declaring themselves as the top of the food chain, so to speak, have enacted laws in order to protect themselves. It's up to the Supernatural Unit Investigation Team (S.U.I.T) to carry out the laws. No human ever thought the organization would be infiltrated by a supernatural passing as a plain, ordinary human. At the beginning of this series, we are introduced to S.U.I.T. officers Matthew Eric (human) and his partner, Warren Davis (Wolf Shapeshifter), who are assigned a grisly murder to solve. A decapitated human body, with very little blood, was found. With little to no clues, it soon becomes apparent that the crime was committed by at least one supernatural, though the lack of blood suggests it's possible more than one is involved. While Matthew is aware of Warren's true nature, no one else on the force does. Will having Warren as a partner help or hinder Matthew as he works the case? At this same time, the political situation among the supernaturals is in flux; the vampires and shapeshifters are still divided over their exposure to humanity and with the reaction their existence has created. While both groups have laws limiting their hunting and expansion, the vampires appear to be capitalizing on their "rock star" appeal and creating a financial windfall for themselves. Especially Darian and Xavier, who several of the more prominent clubs in Chicago. While lovers, these two vampires also have an open relationship. Meanwhile, the shapeshifters are caught up in old world politics among the different packs and prides. Adding to the stress level is the somewhat forbidden attraction Elise, the Queen of the Leopard pride, has for Darian, the top vampire in town, and the on again, off again romance between Warren, and Adrian, the son of his Alpha. Adding to the mix are two humans caught in the crossfire of action between all of the players; Annette Balfour, one of the dancers in Darian and Xavier's club, and Natasha Hemingway, her best friend and roommate. As events unfold, both women play a larger role in this story, with Natasha becoming of primal importance to the vampires involved. As everyone works to keep peace between the humans, vampires and shapeshifters, they'll have to solve the case of the serial killer bent on destroying the peace. Ms. Simmons' world building and character introduction was well done and I was able to follow all of the action taking place. We get just enough character development to know the main players and see things from each of their viewpoints. Adding in a few twists I didn't see coming, kept the action hopping and the mystery fresh and intriguing. Will Matthew and Warren be able to solve the mystery of which supernatural is behind the murders? Will Natasha be able to accept the changes in her life getting involved with two vampires will bring? And will the peace between the vampires and shapeshifters continue? You'll have to read Desires Unleashed to find out. I enjoyed it and think it's a good beginning for the series. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Simmons' work.

I'm going to have to agree with the synopsis, this is a book you don't want to miss out on! There's the supernatural world, and oh, the conflict, it was delicious, after all, Natasha didn't want to be a part of the supernatural world, but then her gift/curse comes in, and well, Natasha does the right thing. You have to care for these characters, from their love of donuts, to their jobs, to their very lives, they are things that people take for granted, and that's not always for the better! And then there's the whole romantic conflict, because man, being torn between 2 guys, and vampires at that, well, not something I'd want to experience, but reading about, well, that's another story altogether! The action in this book, it was astounding, after all, they are cops, and violence is a big part of their world, and with all the dead bodies, and how gruesome they were, that just added to the book, tantalizing, tempting, and yeah, just really great!
