Be sure you clear your calendar because once you start reading, you won't want to put it down. Barbara Freethy has a winning writing style that draws you in. This story of Wyatt and Avery has romance, mystery and suspense. Be sure to check out the first two books in this series if you haven't already.

Wyatt is an undercover FBI agent working to find the mole in the company Avery works at. Avery's friend is murdered and now Avery is on the murder's hit list. Barbara has written a suspenseful story with strong and believable characters. Couldn't put the book down. Looking forward to reading the next one in this series. joy943

This is the third book in the Off The Grid:FBI series. This series by Barbara Freethy is phenomenal. Wow! Each one is just as fantastic a read as the previous one. It is so very well written. Full of mystery, suspense, a plot loaded with twists and a wonderful romance between Wyatt Tanner & Avery Caldwell, who he was supposed to protect. I was so caught up in reading this book, that I couldn’t wait to finish it. Well done Barabara! You definitely know how to weave a tale of mystery and suspense, along with some romance. Looking forward to reading Paisa’s story now.

Engaging and edgy, Barbara Freethy’s Desperate Play will keep readers guessing. This is book 3 in the Off the Grid: FBI series. Avery Caldwell is a “geeky scientist” who works as an educational director for the company Nova Star. Wyatt Tanner is an FBI agent working undercover in security for Nova Star. Avery and Wyatt cross paths when Avery’s friend Noelle is murdered and both begin investigating to discover who is responsible. There are lots of good clues and distraction clues woven in the story. It was not obvious who the guilty person. Wyatt’s emotional reflection after years of undercover work was insightful. “He lied every single day of his life.” It is helpful to have read the first two books in the series. I enjoyed having Bree from book 2 play an important part in this book. Interesting characters in this one.

Although this is the 3rd book in Ms. Freethy's FBI series, it is easily a stand alone story. Having read the 1st two I was interested in finding out what Wyatt's story was. He's always been pretty edgy in the "appearances" he's made in the other book and when I started reading this one I was wondering if he would actually get a HEA as him settling down and not going undercover seemed unlikely. I really enjoyed his struggle with getting close to Avery, but the way he protects her and they both come to trust each other makes for a real page turner. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Desperate Play is a fantastic book. Wyatt and Avery are wonderful together. This story never had a dull moment! I wasn’t able to guess who did it, so I had a really hard time putting the book down. I definitely recommend this book, and look forward to the next book in Barbara Freethy’s FBI series!

This is book 3 in the Off the Grid series. I wish I would have re-read the first two before reading this because I forgot some of the plot, but it's ok to read it without having read the first two books. I really like all these characters. The series is about a group of people who meet at Quantico going through their training years and become friends. It helps to read the other books first because then you know who all the players are and their roles, but the books are still good as stand alones. This one is Wyatt's story. He goes undercover at a firm dealing with space technology and meets Avery. The two of them are trying to figure out who killed her best friend and the twists and turns this story takes are really interesting. The story line is believable and suspense books are my favorite, so this ranks right up there. Looking forward to the last two books in the series, but these characters are barely even mentioned in the first 3 books, so I'm curious to see who they are. Definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a good mystery!!!

For those who have been following this series, Wyatt has been a wraith. Rarely seen, with no background, but an affinity for showing up when he’s needed, then blending back into the darkness. Avery is a brilliant astrophysicist, with a dysfunctional family, a job she loves, and a now dead friend and co-worker. Wyatt’s background opens up a bit in this book, and we learn his motivation for keeping a low profile. Avery continues to wonder why, and how she is involved in something so sinister. Is espionage involved? Who killed Noelle and why? Is someone leaking proprietary knowledge to a foreign country? Desperate Play will keep you guessing until the very end! Ms. Freethy does romantic suspense so well. The tension mounts as you read and when the person behind the horror is revealed…well…I sure didn’t see that coming!! I can’t wait for the rest of this series.

A Romantic Suspense that pulls you in! Another winner by Barbara Freethy. While this is Book 3 in the Off the Grid series dealing with a group of FBI agents who bonded and became the best of friends during their training, this is definitely a book you can read as a stand alone. I like that in each book you have moments when the other friends make an appearance. The story starts out fast, and the suspense continues to grow. Love that in this book we get to know Wyatt's background, and why he tends to be a loner and working undercover with the FBI. After Avery's best friend is murdered, Wyatt is assigned through the head of the aerospace company that Avery works for to keep an eye on her and to protect her. You'll be guessing until the very end who is committing the espionage, the thefts, and who is after Avery to keep these secrets. Loved it. Can't wait to read book 4 in this series!

Desperate Play by Barabara Freethy is the 3rd installment in her Off the Grid FBI series. Note: this review contains spoilers! As soon as we meet Wyatt Tanner, we know all is not as it seems. He was in the tail end of the last FBI book, so being homeless just doesn’t cut it. This is off the grid after all. And Avery Caldwell doesn’t really fit the role of undercover spy either. But when her best friend is murdered in the Fun House, Avery becomes the target of everyone! Car chases and flying bullets keep the action fast moving and the reader on the edge of their seat. Figuring out the identity of bad guy mastermind keeps you guessing. Every time I thought I had it figured out, things changed and another clue pointed to someone else! Well defined characters and great descriptions make this a great read. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

I LOVED this third installment of Barbara Freethy’s FBI series. I believe I like it the best so far. It is one of the best books I have read all summer. I especially enjoyed the back and for conversations between Avery and Wyatt as they got to know one another. They are both nice people. I actually wrote down 2 segments of their thoughts/discussions to save for myself that hit home for me. This series is best read in order, since there are situations and characters that are mentioned in each book. Don’t wait…try them out…enjoy!

I absolutely loved this book! From the very beginning, I wasn't sure where it was going - Wyatt was interesting, but clearly something was going on that we didn't know.... Avery is wonderful but feels very alone, out of sync with most people except her boss. When danger strikes, who do you trust when your head is usually in the clouds but people are dying? A great read, I couldn't put it down!

Love Nora Roberts? Brenda Novak? Try Barbara Freethy DESPERATE PLAY is the third in Barbara Freethy’s Off the Grid: FBI Series following members of the same class of recruits at FBI’s academy in Quantico. I am a huge fan of Freethy, whether she is writing primarily romance (her Callaway family) or this, which is true suspense with a little romance thrown in. Freethy’s characters are always complicated, well-rounded and people I want to know. Undercover FBI agent Wyatt Tanner and Avery Caldwell, the woman who finds herself at the middle of a murder and espionage investigation, are no exception. The two find they have chemistry beyond finding themselves in a decidedly stressful situation. But the mystery they are solving takes center stage as their relationship slowly evolves. By the end of the book, both have come to a satisfactory conclusion. Luckily, because DESPERATE PLAY is part of a series, I know I’ll likely see Wyatt and Avery again. DESPERATE PLAY is a great book to start Freethy’s Off the Grid: FBI Series, but you’ll find yourself grabbing Books 1 and 2, also, because of references to those characters. Now, I just have to wait for Books 4 and 5!

ARC for honest review with no compensation Desperate Play is book 3 in the Off The Grid:FBI series by Barbara Freethy that is filled with suspense, twists, turns, emotional and keeps you on the edge of your seat and turning the pages to find out what happens next. Wyatt an FBI agent (who we met in the other books) is a loner and undercover agent and has been since he joined the FBI. He has been undercover so long he is not sure who he really is...Until he meets and has to protect Avery (an Astrophysicist) after she discovers her friend is dead and needs to know what happened and why...can Wyatt keep Avery safe? Find out who killed her friend? Who is behind it? Once you start reading you will not want to put it down though it is a standalone, reading the previous books in this series will give you a better understanding of the agents and how they interact..can't wait for the next book in this series!!!

Loving this series. My favorite is still book 1 but this one come in a very close second. Wyatt is undercover and part of his job is to protect Avery. So how much can an undercover FBI agent tell the woman he falls for? They both have secrets and painful pasts. This book keeps you guessing and wanting to hurry up and find out who committed the crimes. Looking forward to the next book.

Barbara Freethy’s Off the Grid: FBI Trilogy Series #3 is an action-packed, suspense-filled delight! This is the third book in Ms. Freethy’s Off the Grid FBI Trilogy and it doesn’t disappoint! Ms. Freethy has written a story that grabbed me at the first chapter and held on for a wild, suspense-filled ride! The characters are well-developed and believable. The action is fast and unpredictable. Five Stars, but i would give it more stars if I could. I highly recommend Dangerous Play to anyone who likes a good, action-filled suspense read. I would advise you not to read it when you are home alone at night.
