Having finished this book moments ago, I am still reeling from how the events of the story could actually take place...here...in the USA...next year...next month...next week...tomorrow. Reader beware: the content may haunt you forever. You may spend hours studying stock market trends and eonomic predictors. That being said, the characters were amazing and hooked me from the first few pages. I will definitely be loking for more books from this author.

This guy can write! Very topical and believable story about the collapse of the dollar and the ensuing chaos. Antinozzi brings vibrant characters to life and you care about what happens to them. Riveting action and tense drama make this an engaging read. Desperate Times is a great ride from a bright talent.

Desperate Times is a book you won't be able to put down. Jimmy Logan and his friends face incredible odds to simply survive when the stock market suddenly collapses, prices skyrocket, and the government takes control of the air waves and people's lives. DT is edge-of-your seat suspense that will make you wonder if author Nick Antinozzi knows something the rest of us don't and leaves you desperately hoping he doesn't. Both Desperate Times and Desperate Times 2 are destined for the NY Times Best-Seller list and will leave you begging for a sequel and a movie.

This was not a terrible book by any means. But it wasn't great either. I liked the concept. And the author gives it a good effort. But you can tell this was a self publish book. It is in very bad need of editing. There are a lot of useless paragraphs. Useless dialog that goes nowhere and means little. Lots of cliches in the speech of the characters. Disjointed thoughts jumbled together in paragraphs. There is too much preachy stuff at the beginning of each chapter. Here is an example of a useless segment that an editor would likely have axed: There is a whole lot of time devoted to the survivors in the compound electing a council. Several of the characters give speeches, etc. And an election is held. Then the whole concept is dropped. The guy that owns the property is still in charge and gives orders. The whole council thing is never brought up again. A useless waste of quite a few pages. Someone else said it reads like it was written by a high schooler. And this is why. It needs polish and editing. It needs to be cuts down with 150 to 200 pages of useless baggage dropped. You can tell that the author is inexperienced. Hopefully he can build and learn his craft better.

Plausible chaotic end to our 'civilized society' when a total economic crash occurs. Some good guys are still good, but most humans revert to basic animalistic survival mode. The pace is steady as the story unwinds. I enjoyed it a lotl

I found myself talking to friends about this book as I was reading. It is so relevent to life today and the fast facts before each chapter haunted my dreams last night. This book deserves a cost and the fact that it is free is just plain shocking. I am going to recommend it to my book club members! Trust me! It is totally worth the download! Especially if you are into tear-jerking, scary, exciting, eerily realistic thrillers with excellent character and plot development! But who isn't?

I had a very hard time putting this book down. It may hve been free, but one of the best books I've read in quite awhile. There must be a sequel...it ended too abruptly.

So,I just finished reading this series from start to finish (including the sort story prequals) and I am really impressed. Maybe Mr. Antonizzi needs to run for pres! Seriously, I decided to write my review for the series here in the first book so that someone wanting to know if they should bother with it could get an opinion on the whole series.
LET ME TELL YOU, YOU SHOULD BOTHER!!
This series is extremely thought provoking. I read a review where someone read 30 pages and quit saying the book was written to spout out conservative propaganda. That is soooo not the case. The author does a fabulous job making the reader think about how ridulous BOTH extreme sides can be!!! The people in power (and some in the general population) seem to have lost all common sense in how we deal with even the most simple of issues.
I read this series in four days. I just couldn't put it down. I got the first for free friday some time ago and finally got around to reading it. I am sorry it took me so long to get started!
Hope to hear much more from this author!

This novel is very relevant to our current world condition. EVERYONE needs to read it, just in case. Desperate Times will drive up your pulse, make you evaluate yourself and your fellow man, and tear at your heart. Fantastic writing. This should be made into a Blockbuster movie.

This is really what would happen if the world came to an end like this.

This book was boring. The characters were unrealistic and predictable and the plot was the same as the ant vs. the grasshopper fable. I really tried to get into the story, but decided to go to the dentist and have a tooth pulled instead. Sorry, but spend your time on another book there's lots out there waiting to be discovered. Jp

Really well done, exciting story! The pacing is perfect, and the characters work together like any lovable, mismatched group of survivors. Antinozzi's writing is compelling, and masterful! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Unable to book this down. I read it in less than 2 days and it took me even less time to read the 2nd book. I am now impatiently awaiting the 3rd in the series. I've recommended this book to several friends.
