About the Author
Pamela R. Jeffries, DNS, RN, ANEF, FAAN, is Associate Dean, Academic Programs and Associate Professor, Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, and Indiana University School of Nursing, Indianapolis. Dr. Jeffries is the recipient of numerous awards for excellence, including the NLN Excellence Award for Research (2007), Nursing Education Research Award (2007), Clinical Simulation (INACSL Award 2005), AAN Fellow (2005), and Academy of Nurse Educators Fellowship (2007), to name the most recent. Recent research grants include Faculty Development Simulation Consortium (MD State Hospital Association), Clinical Redesign & Integration of Clinical Simulation (MD State Hospital Association, Use of Patient Simulation in Teaching ACLS, HRSA to Develop Faculty Development Institutes consortium of 3 universities: KA; CO, IN and many others in simulation. Dr. Jeffries has published widely in leading nursing education journals for many years, and is the sole author of: Simulations in Nursing Education: From Conceptualization to Evaluation, (NLN/2007) and has contributed chapters to over 14 books on simulation, online education and interactive learning. She has spoken nationally and internationally and has delivered multiple keynote presentations at nursing and integrated healthcare conferences throughout the world. She has collaborated with the US Navy, Laerdal Corporation, and HRSA and has presented numerous university nursing school based workshops on simulation.
Jim Battin, MA, (Organizational Psychology) is President, Strategic Consulting Group, Inc., Columbus, Indiana, where he has been working in strategic workforce development planning for a ten-county initiative in southeast Indiana which is the recipient of a $35M grant to create a regional learning system in the areas of manufacturing and healthcare. At previous venues Mr Battin developed and implemented a wide range of HR initiatives including Global HR Standards (45 manufacturing centers), HR audit & measurement system, HR curriculum (50 courses), 'train-the-trainer' implementation techniques (400 staff worldwide), a Global HR individual development and succession planning model, and a team-based work system model for all manufacturing plants worldwide. He collaborated with co-author, Dr. Jeffries, on the Midwest Consortium Simulation Project, a consortium of 14 organizations including 12 large and small hospitals and two universities.
