About the Author

Award-winning author Suzie Grant's life has been one big adventure. Her childhood was full of reading the classics like Treasure Isle, Robinson Crusoe and The Swiss Family Robinson tales. In fact her mother has another word for her “stories” but to this day, Suzie continues to dream up adventures of her own.

As a pregnant teen her adventure became a life-defining moment as she struggled to survive and raise a child on her own. During those rocky years writing became an emotional outlet.

After a very long divorce she again finds herself climbing that rocky path of life and has learned to live by a single quote: “Obstacles are placed in our path to determine whether we really wanted something, or just thought we did.” By Dr. Harold Smith.

Suzie looks forward to each new obstacle.

Taking life by the proverbial horns, Suzie now lives happily ever after with her new beau, three boys and one little Shih tzu named Peppy Le’Pew in NC. One day she plans to retire and sail along the east coast an adventurer to the end.

Awesome Book

I enjoyed this story and the bantering back and forth between Gade and Blaze. It was a little repetitive at times and a bit drawn out but, it is still a story worth reading. Getting ready to read book 2.

I loved this book! It was a great Historical Fiction Western Romance. The vivid scenes that Suzie Grant brings to mind with her beautiful descriptions of Texas, when it was still mostly ranch land, are amazing. I loved Blaze's character as well. She was hard on the outside, but as a reader you were able to ascertain that beneath her hard exterior she is a lost soul. I was surprised when I realized she was only 19, because she seems so much older. When you continue to read you discover the reason why she seems so much older than she really is. Her life has been a series of hurt and heartaches. Anyone she has ever loved or trusted has betrayed her, including family. She was on her own at such a young age, and had committed shocking crimes when she was barely a pre-teen, because of the people that she was forced to travel with. The reader begins to see Blaze's vulnerability when she interacts with Gade. He's the only man that a woman, who has spent her entire life being forced to be so strong, could ever fall for. Blaze needs a strong man who can love her and also keep her grounded, and Gade is the man. He's definitely the perfect man for a Western Romance novel. He's strong and fierce, but he also has baggage that he carries with him that makes him human. I liked that this book wasn't all about the sex and romance, yeah there were some good sex scenes, but there was a ton of action as well. The reader is able to really get to know the two main characters, and also some of the more minor characters. It's easy to care for Gade and his family, and when misfortune befalls them, it's easy to grieve for them. I think the author, Suzie Grant, did an excellent job at bringing the characters and the scenery in this novel alive, and I look forward to reading more novels by her in the future. This book definitely deserves a 4 out of 5 stars.

I love a spunky, take no prisoners heroine and Blaze was all that and more. She is one of the toughest chicks around, but still vulnerable and tender at the same time. The characters are well-drawn and rope you into the story. I couldn't wait to see how it would all turn out. What a great, action-packed western romance!

I really enjoyed this book! There were parts that were confusing, and some parts that were repetitive and drawn out. Other than that (which you can easily get over) the book was great. I enjoyed how the story was told from both of their prospectives and that Gade and Blaze grew throughout and learned to let go of the past. I am excited for the other brothers to get books because they definitely  need them.  Warren was such a good character and it was great to see him break down and not be such a tight wad.  I want his book so you can get to know him better. The same with Garrett he seems like such an uppper class doesn't want to get dirty man but then he goes and surprises you. I loved that! great job Suzie I can't wait for more Ryder's boys books!!
