The national bestselling story about the underdog who comes out on top!

Little Dex has big dreams: he wants to be a superhero. So he reads all the comic books he can, builds his muscles, and even orders a hero costume. Once he has all the makings of a hero, Dex’s first mission is to save a tomcat in need of help. However, the cat is a classic bully who teases Dex about his size.

Will Dex learn that a hero is not defined by the strength of his muscles but by the trueness of his heart?

Husband and wife Caralyn and Mark Buehner tag-team to create a fun and modern superhero tale with a real comic book feel, askin to Even Superheroes Have Bad Days by Shelly Becker and Ten Rules of Being a Superhero by Deb Pilutti.

Dexter has determination, spirit, and heart as he proves, above all, that no matter how little you are, you can still do very big things.

And don’t miss the companion story, Superdog: The Heart of a Hero!

Tired of being overlooked because he is so small, a big-hearted dog named Dexter transforms himself into a superhero.

This is a little old for Jake right now, but Dex reminds us of our dachshund Scrappy. Dex is a bit of an underdog, who decides he's going to be a super dog. Very fun!

This is my all time favorite children's book!! I love this book. I cannot say enough good things about this book. The main character, Dex is so lovable. The story is great. My kids love this book. I love that there are many lessons in this book to discuss with your kids. For instance, Dex gets teases by a big tom cat yet he never stoops to the cat's level. He always acts with integrity. He has a dream and works hard to achieve his dream. I just plain love this book!

Loved the message of determination in this book. The moral is if you work hard for what you want, you get results. The illustrations are colorfully wonderful helping the reader to imagine Dex in his neighborhood. In addition, there is an element of fitness in this book. This issue is all too real. Children are inactive and as a result are overweight. Hopefully this book encourages children to be like Dex and to get fit!

My five year old loves this book. It reminds him of superman and his (much larger) dogs. He gets excited as Dex works out, grows big, strong and confident. We have taken it out, put it away and brought it back out again. My son asks for this book over and over again. He is waiting for another with Cleevis the Cat and Dex the Hero to team up. Great book. Wonderful animation, keeps his attention and "guaranteed to put a smile on your child's face"!

This delightfully written tale of an underling who decides to reach for his dreams is a lovely story. Lessons of determination, self motivation and forgiveness are all taught without being self righteous. My six year old twins both loved the book.
