Diagnostic Cerebral Angiography, Second Edition, is organized into three major parts. Part 1 covers techniques and technical aspects of cerebral angiography. Part 2 is a detailed description of normal anatomy, anatomic variations, and congenital anomalies. Part 3 focuses on pathological entities, including trauma, aneurysms, stroke, vascular malformations, atherosclerosis, and vasculitis.Coverage includes new information on vascular territories, film subtraction, and magnetic resonance angiography. The text is thoroughly illustrated with 1,200 radiographs and line drawings, all of them new to this volume. Another new feature of this Second Edition is the use of boxed summaries throughout the text to highlight key points.

Description: This thorough book covers the normal anatomy of the vasculature of the head and neck as well as major pathology. This second edition replaces the original published in 1980, which many radiologists have used during training.
Purpose: The purpose is to "amalgamate, consolidate, simplify and illustrate the pathology, epidemiology, and imaging findings for just about every major disease (and many important minor ones) that affect the cranial cerebral vessels." The author has succeeded in accomplishing her goal.
Audience: This is an admirable introductory text for radiology, neurosurgery, and neurology residents studying cerebral angiography, and is a useful source for the practicing radiologist. The author is recognized internationally for her extensive expertise in the field of neuroradiology in all its various disciplines, including cerebral angiography.
Features: Normal anatomy is covered with illustrations that are clear and well annotated. Clinical case material is excellent in quality. Pathology as related to the vasculature is covered with clear images that are well annotated. As with her text in diagnostic neuroradiology, the author includes sidebars throughout the text. These reiterate key points and also help the reader access information quickly while studying or reviewing. The text does not cover non-invasive angiography such as MRA and CTA, and was not intended to cover neuro-interventional techniques. This is not a shortcoming. Other than the complexities of artifacts produced by MRA & CTA, this textbook functions admirably as an aide in the interpretation of non-invasive images.
Assessment: This is a welcome update to the classical text so many of us have used. I am sure this second edition is destined to be the holy grail that we find our trainees carrying when they are wearing their scrubs.
