About the Author

Micheal Maxwell has traveled the globe on the lookout for strange sights, sounds, and people. His adventures have taken him from the Jungles of Ecuador and the Philippines, to the top of the Eiffel Tower and the Golden Gate Bridge, and from the cave dwellings of Native Americans to The Kehlsteinhaus, Hitler’s Eagles Nest! He’s always looking for a story to tell and interesting people to meet. Micheal Maxwell was taught the beauty and majesty of the English language by Bob Dylan, Robertson Davies, Charles Dickens and Leonard Cohen. Mr. Maxwell has traveled the globe, dined with politicians, rock stars and beggars. He has rubbed shoulders with priests and murderers, surgeons and drug dealers, each one giving him a part of themselves that will live again in the pages of his books. Micheal Maxwell has found a niche in the mystery, suspense, genre with The Cole Sage Series that gives readers an everyman hero, short on vices, long on compassion, and a sense of fair play, and the willingness to risk everything to right wrongs. The Cole Sage Series departs from the usual, heavily sexual, profanity laced norm and gives readers character driven stories, with twists, turns, and page turning plot lines. Micheal Maxwell writes from a life of love, music, film, and literature. Along with his lovely wife and travel partner, Janet, he lives in a small town in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. This was a first time reading for me by this author, but I do not plan for it to be my last. The story is so well written, felt as if I was experiencing everything each character was feeling or going thru. It is such a wonderful story, heart-wrenching... liked the way the author shared God's love and grace with his readers.

I do not give five star ratings often. This book has a lot of adult themes. It is not chick lit, yet is a book woman can sink their teeth into. It has enough substance and action, men can enjoy it also. It is a rather sad novel, which makes the reader think about the important things in life. I wish the ending could have been different, but if it had been, the novel would have been ruined. A woman has ALS and hires a PI to find her daughter, so she can tell her daughter goodbye. There is much more to the novel, this is just one thread. A little over 300 pages. Ages 18 and up. AD

I read the reviews before starting to read this book. Wanted to get some kind of an idea of what to expect from this author. Reviews are good, descriptions seemed alot like only his family wrote the reviews... but upon finishing the book, I realized that the reviews were right... it is an excellent novel by a wonderful author who has a distinct love of the English language. Cole Sage is a grand main character. A reporter by trade, it should be simple to understand that he would think like one... and he does. HIs thoughts are vast and are totally human in so many ways... but the author has made sure that Cole's words never get excessive or hum-drum. I recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys reading a well written story. And for those that take my recommendation... enjoy!!!!

The story itself was very good if you could ignore the crude words.

It starts out pretty dull but stick with it you WON'T regret it! By Chapter 2, Cole Sage is sent to cover a fluff piece for the newspaper but when he gets there he finds out something more interesting has happened. While there something else happens that literally made my jaw drop and from that point on I could NOT put the book down. I read it in 9 hours flat! But be will need tissues for the last part of the book! This books has lots of twists and turns, is fast paced, has lots of funny dialogue and flash back memories to give you background on the characters but is also sad and bittersweet. There's drama and danger and hope for more adventure in the future. This is going to be a great series and I can't wait to read the next one!

And just couldn't get into the story. Maxwell's writing is reminescent of Garrison Keillor stories. And not in a good way. The plot seemed interesting ... 40 something yr old guy, newspaper writer bored with his job and desperately searching for a good story to write. Past love interest, now very ill with ALS, needs his help. But with every step forward moving the tale along, is ten steps back with infill. Boring.

The story started slow for me. I even thought if it didn't get better soon I would have to give up. But the story did pick up and i didn't want to put it down. Will read more of the cole sage series.

Cole is the hero you want to win because he is fighting for the love of his life. Maxwell has created a "dont want to put down until your finished" novel. You want a doctor when your hurt, you want Cole when you need answers and justice.

I received this as a free book. I’m always looking for new authors, so I gave it a try. Cole Sage is a fascinating character. Kind of a curmudgeon, but deep down is loyal with a heart of gold. While searching for the daughter of his lost love, he faces the past while working on a fascinating mystery. This complex character drew me in completely and I plan to read the entire series.

I just finished Diamonds and Cole and a new fan has arrived! Great character and story development. I really enjoyed reading a book that had human characters with real emotions. Come Sage is realistic, bold and believable. The story was touching and insightful on many levels with a surprise underscoring theme of discovery and personal conflict and resolution.
