This book reminded me a lot of the TV show Nikita. You have this group of operatives who are either ex-cons or were in the child service system. Either way these people will not be missed and have nothing in life to really lose. There is an agency who sends these people on secret missions. One operative wants out and will do what she can in order to obtain her freedom. Anika decides she's had enough with UNIT and wants out. The only thing is, no one gets out. They have something called a solo mission for those who want out and a solo mission is pretty much a death mission that has low odds of survival. Anika strikes a deal with the Commander of UNIT. If she can convince Gianni to help her with her Solo, thus proving his disloyalty to UNIT, they will grant her freedom. Only, nothing is ever as it seems and pretty soon Anika is second guessing everyone and everything. I enjoyed the suspense in this story and found it to be entertaining as a whole. However, there were parts that I got a little bored during. There is a lot of down time and planning on Anika's part where she is waiting to make contact with Gianni to warn him of what's going on. She goes to museums and out to dinner and I found myself skimming those parts looking to get back to the action. I wish there had been a bit more action or maybe a little bit more of Gianni in the story. I didn't really find myself rooting for him like I should have.

"Die Run Hide" by PM Kavanaugh is a lickety split rollercoaster of a read! It features a great new adventure character, a beautiful young operative named "Anika" who has the skills of James Bond, Jason Bourne and Lara Croft, but the heart of every woman who longs for her true love. Anika is a heroine to the end, whether she knows it or not, even when it means tricking her lover and fellow spy "Gianni" and fleeing from the secret network that plucked her from an orphanage as a talented tween. Set in a convincingly wrought near future, this story is peppered with clever spy craft, sharp dialogue and intriguing techno-gadgets that don'texist, but should. For example, a non-lethal weapon that spins live rats into an impenetrable barrier. But don't worry - it's Anika's story, so if the rats are innocent, they will live. The ending is heart pounding, heart breaking and heart healing, all in one. If you like your entertainment fast, smart and hot, like "Burn Notice," "Alias,"and "Nikita," this book is for you. I hope "Die Run Hide" is just the first of many Anika and U.N.I.T. adventures from new author PM Kavanaugh. Die Run Hide Full Disclosure: I received a pre-publication copy of this novel with no promise of a review.
