Vincent Nevechihir is middle-aged and terminally fat. His doctor says so. The only prescription is lose 100 pounds in one year: "Diet or die." Vincent choses the diet part of the equation. His goal becomes and obsession. His friends and colleagues and family find his decision to be too radical to be understood. Troubles follow him along the path, including the deaths of people with whom Vincent has relationships. A suspicious county prosecutor becomes obsessed with bringing Vincent down.
On the bright side, he falls in love for the first time, twice. He becomes philisophical and ironic in his memories of being obese and those like him. He works diligently to stay with his diet and excersise regimen. His success is measured by the more notches in his belt. He drops from the XXXL ranks as his diet deadline approaches.
Enter a hit-and-run driver who targets his fiancee and Vincent himself. His life does not fall apart, but it does become more complicated, and his diet and excersise routines are pushed to the back of his mind.
Will he reach his first goal only to die a different death? Maybe...
