I've had the spiral-bound version for more than 10 years and still use recipes from this book weekly. It got me cooking again - a big change from years of mostly frozen box dinners because neither of us had energy to plan/cook after busy days at work. The book has a unique format that really works well. Weekly shopping lists, nightly 3-4 course meals that really CAN be prepared in less than 1 hour, and step-by-step instructions with sequencing all laid out - 2 (facing) pages per day. Meals are scaled for 4 people, but leftovers store well so every few nights we'd skip cooking and enjoy some reheated delicious mix-match. Or often make only main and veg or main and salad. The index is very well-done, too. Easy to find (or locate again) a menu featuring items we have on-hand or one that became a family favorite. This book makes cooking meals fun. I HIGHLY recommend it.

I am the busy mom of 5 children ages 7 and under. I also enjoy cooking and am rather good at it, but I HATE deciding what to cook every night! Add to that a husband who has a gourmet palate and I struggled over dinner almost every night. I bought this book 2 years ago, and I wouldn't be without it. The meals are all terrific. I haven't made something I didn't like yet. I love the fact that everything matches up and looks pretty on the plate... colorful and imaginative and GOOD. The servings are very large, and the children don't eat that much yet, so we usually get through 2 weeks on one week of plans, with leftover nights and one pizza night. But the best thing of all is that I enjoy cooking these meals! A lot of the recipes call for wine (or a substitute), but I buy the wine, and pop it open and sip a little as I'm cooking. Even thought the children are doing their normal 'arsenic hour' stuff, it's not so bad with dinner being completely and wonderfully planned for me. To the authors: Your book is a Godsend for me and my family! Thank you for your hard work!

I absolutely love this book! I have 3 children under the age of 5 and find that I grew bored of the same old stuff that my tired brain dreamed up each night. This book gives you a shopping list so you can save time and not have to make one up yourself (our totals were always under $100/week), gives you instructions as to which item to begin first and in what order so everything is ready at the same time, and has really high quality meals. My children really enjoy the meals and my husband can't believe that I watch three children and still make such awesome dinners. Purchase one for a gift and make someone very happy!

I have found a hidden talent for cooking since I bought this book. I can't believe how emotional I get when I talk about this book, but I have always considered myself without imagination and talent in the kitchen. This book changed everything. I'm a professional who works easily 55 hours a week or more and I don't have the time to make meals that take longer than an hour. I also don't have the time to think of what to make and this book has solved these problems. The recipes are unique and so flavorful. My boyfriend and I usually go out 3-5 times a week, and are bored with restaurant food. These complete meals are restaurant quality, if not better! I love these women and I don't even know them.

This is a great cookbook to have on hand. For unimaginative and/or untrained cooks--the recipes are very flavorful. It has great variety. The portion sizes are very generous. (Authors state serves 4 adults and it does). Since I'm a novice cook it usually takes me a little longer to prepare than 60 minutes. But occasionally, it's worth the time to have a complete meal come together when we want good food and we're tired of eating out. This is a great cookbook for families of adults and older children. However the mixed ingredients and sometimes exotic flavors may not be toddler friendly. At least not for ours, so I've decided to use it as a reference for the imaginative sides and salads and for entertaining. The variety and simplicity is extremely helpful.
