Meet the Author

Thomas P. Hopp was born in Seattle, Washington, where he lived his earliest years in a housing project on the banks of the Duwamish River. Good grades at West Seattle High School and the University of Washington as well as a perfect score on the Graduate Record Examination got him into the Biochemistry Ph.D. program at Cornell University Medical College. Dr. Hopp studied genetic engineering at Rockefeller University and then helped found the multi-billion-dollar biotechnology company, Immunex Corporation. He discovered and patented genes for the immune stimulating hormone interleukin one. He also created genetically altered animals with human genes as well as the first commercially successful nanotechnology device, a molecular handle called the Flag epitope. He worked in the field with paleontologist Jack Horner, excavating bones of the nest-building duckbilled dinosaur Maiasaura. He published scientific articles on his brooding-to-flight hypothesis, in which wing feathers of birds developed first for nesting and then for flying. He plays guitar and bass, and has performed onstage with blues legend John Lee Hooker and rock super-groups The Kingsmen and The Drifters. He has lived in San Diego and on Manhattan Island, but now lives near Seattle.

I am rapidly becoming a big fan of Thomas Hopp's writing. Dinosaur Wars Counterattack is another good old fashioned adventure story, just like the first book. Hopp has a way with characters. The hero and heroine, Chase and Kit, are two young people I want to spend more time with. They seem to get into the toughest spots with dinosaurs, then somehow come out alive. This is really a page turner, just like before. The dinosaurs in this book are extremely realistic, with great pains taken to 'flesh them out' in detail, while not detracting from a rapid-fire plot. I was not aware that many dinosaurs had feathers or fur on them, until reading these books. So long scaly lizards, here come the warm blooded, seriously hungry dinos. While the beasts eat their share of humans, this book is definitely rated G, because there is nothing a younger reader would need to feel squeemish about. There are no 'adult' situations beyond a little kissy-face, and, as I found out, there is a refreshing lack of profane language. Hopp seems intent on making his characters fine, upstanding people, generating excitement by casting them into desperate circumstances. Works for me. As I did with Dinosaur Wars, I give this novel my wholehearted endorsement. It is an undiscovered gem and someday I predict: a major motion picture.

Even better than the first one. I felt like Kit's part of the story was a bit thin this time around, but not having to deal with as much backstory as the first book meant that this one could get right to the plot. If you liked Earthfall even a little bit, you should definitely read this.

If you loved Dino Wars book 1, "EarthFall;" you will enjoy this continuation of the saga. Its another fun and fast read.

Nice adventure story. Military scenes, a young man and woman falling in and out of love, dinosaurs everywhere. The authors is up to date on furry and feathered dinosaurs. A very good read for all ages.

If anyone has seen Dinotopia, Jurasic Park, and Star Wars, this is a fun ten years or older book.

The young hero and heroine, Chase Armstrong and Kit Daniels, survived the first Dinosaur War when a human-sized, intelligent species of dinosaurs returned from space to reclaim their home world¿OUR WORLD! Now, the tentative peace between the invaders and the US military is breaking down. Our bombers and tanks are on the move again, as are the fighting machines of the Kra armies. In the midst of the renewed turmoil, Kit and Chase¿s new romance breaks down as well. Now they must each try to survive alone. Will they find their way back together, or end up as some carnivore¿s grisly meal? The science behind Dinosaur Wars: Counterattack is fully up-to-date. The deadly Megaraptors, larger than Spielberg¿s Velociraptors, are fully covered in feathers, the way paleontologists now know they were. Other great beasts of the Cretaceous Era are portrayed in accurate detail as well. A good story, though, hinges on interesting human characters. I hope you will find the young adventurers, Kit and Chase, to be the sort of heroes who make you want to join their quest for survival and love. Think 'Star Wars meets Jurassic Park,' and you¿ll have a feel for what the book is all about. Counterattack was written in adult-level English and is suitable for all ages to enjoy. If you are a fan of action, adventure, dinosaurs, and a little light romance, I hope you will find this new book to your liking. ¿Thomas P. Hopp
