This book was a really good read. I have read many other books about the Meiji Restoration and this period of time in Japanese history but this had to be the best by far. It was very easy reading and it presents a fresh look on this period. Sir Ernest Satow was an outside observer in Japan during this time, as such he provides a unqiue prospective on the events.
