From New York Times bestselling author Cassia Leo comes a heartrending tale of all-consuming love, deadly family secrets, and overcoming unbearable loss.

In love and revenge, shoot for the heart.

Their marriage was a fairy tale.
Their anniversary was a nightmare.
Now they're fighting to hold on.
But their attractive new neighbor is going to complicate things.

Jack and Laurel had everything. Then, in one brutal instant, the universe tilted on its side, discarding them into black nothingness.

Now, Jack is obsessed with revenge and Laurel is desperate to leave the past behind her. The only way they communicate anymore is in the bedroom. With nothing left to lose, she pens a goodbye letter and heads for Portland, where she quickly meets a neighbor who helps her find a job.

Her new neighbor-handsome ex-soldier Isaac Evans-is complicated. Nevertheless, they form a fast friendship, bonding over their mutual desire to create something beautiful from the wreckage of their lives.

But despite the distance between them, Jack and Laurel are still trying to make things work-fighting and playing dirtier than ever. And he doesn't appreciate Laurel's new friendship with Isaac. Not one damn bit.

Would have given "Dirt" a better rating ... DON'T care for cliffhangers, shouldn't have to read two additional books to find out what happens to Laurel and Jack.

Cliff hangers will never get a good review from me even if it was a good story !

Laurel & Jack experience tragedy and struggle to recover. The story starts with Laurel forcing her husband to acknowledge the 2yrs of grief tore them apart. Laurel moves on & meets a handsome new guy with issues of his own. The book had potential but explained situations to the fifth power. I'd turn the page to the same descriptions and repetitive conversations. Chapters from different perspectives is annoying. At times I couldn't see why the couple loved each other beyond the kinky sex. They used sex the way a southern chef uses salt. I HATED the unnecessary angst. Women flirting with Jack. Dylan. Jack's ex & Isaac's deployment were things I could do without. I'm retired military & I was bored with the PTSD talk. This book should deal with the couple's loss and not everyone's random drama. It would be a great book and not an annoying series. I will not read the rest.

Story was okay but leaves you at a cliffhanger. If I had known that I would have to purchase 2 more books to complete the story, I would not have read the first. I will not purchase the next 2 books. Not the way to make people come back for more! Have some type of resolution. I don't mind reading a series but I prefer ones where each book could stand alone and not leave you hanging.

Would have given it 5 review but was not expecting 3 book series. And why do we have to wait 2 months for each book. I want a happy ending between Laurel and Jack.

When Dirt starts, you have this feeling like something terrible is going to happen. And my intuition is correct. It’s one of my worst fears. I do want to write this review without giving anything away. So I will not be going into detail. Jack and Laurel are married and have gone through the ringer. They both are lost in their own way. They're married, but it’s like they lead two separate lives. Jack is intimidating and has no filter, it seems. Though I know he loves her, it was overwhelming. The journey these two have to embark on is a difficult and emotional one. I loved the secondary characters in this story. I wanted to get to know some of them better. Dirt is a well-written story, it draws you in and keeps you reading. The only thing is I didn’t emotionally connect with the characters. Jack is a little too alpha for me. But that ending? Oh, my. I really can’t wait to find out what happens next. Overall, Four Boundless Stars

I received a copy of this book from the author. It's been a while since I've read a book by Cassia Leo.  So when I received an email about this series I decided to give it a try.  There's a lot going on in this book.  I mean a tremendous amount of stuff.  Sometimes I just wanted to shake the two main characters - Jack & Laurel.   I'm sure there's probably some married couples like this one who respond to their troubles with sex instead of talking it out.  While there might not be a resolution to the issue I suppose it does help with the stress relief.  These two are like bunnies.  LOL  Seriously.  I just wished Jack would have taken Laurel's opinions to heart.   Not that she's perfect either.  She's definitely flawed.  I think if these two would have had a decent conversation about their biggest issue then this book would have been drastically different.   Initially I had a hard time getting into this story.  I mentioned all the sex and it seemed, to me, that's all that was going to happen in Dirt.  There's a bit more to the book than that, of course.  It just drove me crazy in the beginning.  In the end though these two seemingly have their act together until they don't.  So of course you'll have to be ready for Seed.  There's a rocky mountain of life for these two to work out or not.  We shall see.

OMG, this first book in the Evergreen Series is, in some ways, quintessential Cassia Leo in that you get the angst and heart-shattering emotions you expect to find if you've read any of her books. But it is also very unique and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!! I TOTALLY empathize with Laurel, I completely identify with her and what the devastating event that occurs does to her emotionally! At the same time. I can understand Jack's reaction to the same event, yet I find myself disliking him for it and the way he becomes obsessed, at the expense of his marriage. The journey that these two are on is FILLED with drama, half-truths, sexual dominance (this seeming to be the only way they communicated, other than fighting) and you can FEEL that they DO love each other intensely...but will it be enough to hold them together through THE most challenging of circumstances? And then there's Isaac!!! Ex-military, tall, gorgeous.....and has ALL kinds of his own issues! I have a STRONG suspicion that THIS one will be the one I fall head-over-heels-in-love with! I'm already more than half way there! I loved the way this story has been plotted, the character development is superb and I just wanted to see where it was leading.....until the SHOCKING cliffhanger at the end! I CAN'T WAIT to see how it all pans out! I'll be waiting VERY IMPATIENTLY for the NEXT installment!!!

I felt it almost immediately after starting this book. I could feel the heartbreak coming. Hanging over me like a dark and stormy cloud, ready to burst at the seams and carry me away in the raging waters. I hoped and prayed I was wrong. Alas, I was not. A heartbreak so great, I dared not to even try to understand it. But for Jack and Laurel life goes on, if only in a horribly dysfunctional fashion. There's a lot of hate sex, but I wasn't even the least bit mad about it. If you're looking for the heat factor, I'll put a big 'ole CHECK beside that box. Hot, hot, HOT! There is the allure of the sexy and mysterious neighbor, with his own heartbreaking past. Although for full disclose purposes, there isn't even a little bit of cheating in this book. So if cheating is a hard limit for you, this one is safe. There is still the mystery of who committed the horrible crime. They do form a easy friendship though., They shared a bond based on their own personal struggles and a shared love of gardening. Overall, the story was a little bit slow paced for me. Maybe it was the angst of waiting for something big to happen because I started to get a bit impatient. Fear not, because that something big is delivered in the end, complete with a heart pounding cliffhanger that left me contemplating murder myself on a certain fictional character. How long do I have to wait for the next one? I need it now.

What a touching, heartbreaking and emotional roller coaster. I was so caught up in the story I didn’t notice I was at the end until I read the last sentence OMG! Cannot wait to read the next book. Hurry, please!

This book was brilliant, intense, beautifully broken, smoldering hot, painful and heart shattering. I have read it several times and my heart is still processing. This is a story you will never forget. You are going to be torn wide open. You are going to feel and you may not always like how you’re feeling, but I wouldn’t change a thing. Prepare yourself for one shocking cliffhanger that makes me want Seed in a desperate way!

AMAZING! Jack and Laurel had it all. Love, marriage, happiness. Until one night tragedy strikes and everything changes. Now, two years later, Laurel decides that she needs to move on and find a meaning for her life. Even if that means a separation from Jack. But will Jack let her go? I loved Dirt! Jack and Laurel's story sparked my interest when I read Dirt's blurb and it hooked me once I started reading. Theirs is a heartbreaking story, full of drama, angst and grief, with hot sexy scenes and little small-hearted moments. Jack and Laurel's story took me in a rollercoaster ride of emotions and I didn't regret one bit. And adding Isaac's mysterious story? It kept me wanting more and find out everything about him. I really loved the multiple POVs. It was really amazing getting inside Laurel's, Jack's and Isaac's heads. And the cliffhanger? I need Seed now! Laurel is a strong woman but she's going through a very difficult time. She lost a lot and even though she loves Jack, she wants more than their arguments and angry sex. She's trying to find herself again and find a new purpose for her life. Jack is still grieving and how he's dealing with it is affecting his relationship with Laurel and his work. He loves Laurel and doesn't want to lose her but it's very difficult to him not having answers for what happened and to try to move on with life. He can be very sweet but also a jerk. Isaac is a mystery. He's the dark and brooding ex-military and he's been through a lot. He's very sweet and kind, but also very protective. He feels a deep connection with Laurel but knows she's still married. Cassia Leo hit the jackpot with Dirt! This is the perfect beginning for what seems to be a fantastic series and I can't wait to read the Evergreen series. She created amazing characters that are very easy to connect with. Her writing style is flawless and she has the ability to make us feel everything the characters are feeling and cry, scream, and laugh him them. The cliffhanger left me wanting more and I can't wait to read what happens next!

4 stars for - Dirt - book one in the Evergreen series by Cassia Leo. This being only the first of three planned books we end up with too many questions with not enough answers and don’t even get me started on that cliffhanger ending! Laurel and Jack are forced to suffer through the worst possible loss imaginable. They have barely managed to maintain their lives together and now two year later Laurel decides a separation is needed to fix their marriage. Laurel moves back to her childhood home in Portland while leaving Jack behind in Hood River. While she fully intends this to be a temporary move she needs to find the person she once was before tragedy and loss took so much from them. Laurel - while extremely fragile - is still very much in love with her husband. Therefore she finds it quite difficult to stay away from him and rather enjoys when he comes to visit, but sex was never their problem. Now all that emotional stuff is what he can’t really deal with too well. To make things even more interesting - there just so happens to be a insanely handsome ex-soldier with tattoos and a freaking man-bun living right next door that is there for anything Laurel “needs help with”. Jack is broken, Laurel is broken and together they are a hot mess. I’m not sure what is gonna happen next but I can’t freaking wait to read it!!!

4.5 stars - and all I can say is WOW!! This book starts out with a shocker and ends with a shocker. It will make you yearn for the next book in the series. Wow - Jack and Laurel are dysfunctional enough that they seem perfect for each other. But how can you recover from loss and the fact that you spend more time f***ing instead of actually communicating. Laurel decides to say good-bye and heads to Portland where she meets her sexy neighbor, Isaac. You just have a feeling this is going to stir up trouble. Hard to describe in any detail without giving away the story, but suffice it to say that this is another stellar read by Cassia Leo. You may not like all the characters, but they will definitely make you feel. Bring on "Seed"!!!! I voluntarily requested and reviewed an advance reader copy.

Tried to “empathize” with the characters in the story - it was very difficult! Don’t know if I would be as strong as the main female character depicted in the story especially after the loss of her baby and her mother, both brutally murdered in her home. I was “rooting” for her recovery to normalcy - to get away, to start anew. Where I find difficulty understanding is why would she and her husband continue to live in the very house the brutal attack occurred? Furthermore, her hospitalization for depression/suicide attempts, experiencing PTSD, blackouts, alcoholic bouts, “angry sex” after every argument which occurred often, and the husband’s obsession for revenge, trust with each other is lost, - the marriage was over! I would definitely distance myself from everything and husband. Concentrate on priority one - ME getting better physically and emotionally. 3 stars, not a follower!
