Film industry insiders Obst (producer of Adventures in Babysitting and Heartbreak Hotel) and Wolper (a screenwriter) write of a movie business so full of dirty deals, sex, and drugs, that it's amazing that any film worth watching gets made in Hollywood. The cast of characters is headed by baby mogul Nicole Lansford, and her protege, secretary-cum-screenwriter Carolyn Foster, two women who give new meaning to the word shallow. Lansford goes toe-to-toe with producer Lance Burton, trying to block the production of his salacious, decadent new film, Dirty Dreams . He and Nicole play their game of high stakes in some of the chicest watering holes and shops in Los Angeles. This glitzy novel raises the art of name-dropping to new heights, but the insider information is eclipsed by the inferior writing. Demand may be created by a summer release and Wolper's movie connections. Not recommended. Previewed in Prepub Alert, LJ 2/15/90.-- Lydia Burruel Johnson, Mesa P.L.
