About the Author

Miriam Auerbach was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia. The first of many changes in her life occurred at age six, when she witnessed tanks rolling past her family's home during the soviet occupation of 1968. Shortly thereafter, her family fled to the United States, taking her with them. She grew up in Denver, where she spent her high school and early college years studying diligently to become a particle physicist. However, during a brief stint at Los Alamos National Lab, she began to suspect that building nuclear weapons just might not be the best way to spend her life. Thus, at age twenty, she rebelled and spent the next decade living on the fringes of the Harley biker world (in the days before it was overtaken by middle-aged professionals).

In her thirties she returned to semi-conventional life, earning a Ph.D. in social work and becoming a university professor. In this capacity, under the name of Miriam Potocky-Tripodi, she has taught legions of students and written a slew of academic treatises crusading for social justice for the world's dispossessed. She has found this to be a rewarding career, with the minor exception that one fine day she crashed headfirst into the glass ceiling of the ivory tower. Falling into a funk, she took to her bed to eat chocolates and watch old Dirty Harry movies. She didn't get Harry's appeal until she suddenly had a vision of him as a woman, and then it all made sense. Thus her debut novel, Dirty Harriet, was born.

Miriam lives in Boca Raton, Florida, with her husband and killer Corgi, Elvira. She continues to profess by day and decompress by night by writing her next Dirty Harriet mystery.

A buck for every " boca babe" and I could retire in Florida.

An enjoyable read with a great sense of sarcastic humour. The first time I've seen a Harley motor descibed as a 500 pound vibrator!

It's difficult to pinpoint exactly what I liked the most about this book - the endearing character of Harriet, the appealing setting of SE Florida (my home as well)or the intriguing plot line which kept me turning page after page. All of these combined to make me a committed Dirty Harriet fan and I am looking forward to the next book in this series!

Harriet is a quirky woman who lives an odd lifestyle - but interesting. The mystery flowed and had some odd turns - ending was a bit of a surprise. I enjoyed her and will read another Dirty Harriet.

I liked the characters created by this author. The plot, however, was not as creative or developed. Upon reading the rather unimaginative ending, I was not tempted to buy the sequel.

In Boca Raton, Florida, Harriet Horowitz has lived the so called good life of local high society. However, she also has a secret her spouse is abusive towards her in private. At the end of her rope, Harriet decides the glimmer is not worth the assaults. At a gala attended by the elite of Southern Florida, Harriet shoots her spouse in a case ruled as self defense as witnessed by 500 revelers.----- Harriet leaves the Boca area on a Harley she relocates by the Everglades planning to start over away from the trappings of high society. She decides to bring in income by becoming a private investigator. A ¿friend¿ from her belle of the ball days as a socialite asks Harriet to investigate the death of a migrant worker that DIRTY HARRIET begins to believe was a cold blooded murder that the police have little interest in solving.----- Besides a terrific investigative tale, DIRTY HARRIET is a deep look at the lifestyle of migrant field workers that should be mandatory reading for those in Congress who paint immigration issues as us and them. The story line is action packed from the moment her abusive spouse makes the heroine¿s day and never slows down as Harriet investigates the death of a ¿nonentity¿. Miriam Auerbach provides a puissant tale using dark humor and starring a fabulous champion who deserves future tales.----- Harriet Klausner
