French house isn't just a geographical classification, it's a stylistic category -- a distinction that's the result of Daft Punk's 1997 debut, Homework, a woolly slice of wiggly disco-house and cheeky analog-techno that basically defined the style. Selling more than 2 million copies worldwide, Homework introduced sonic quirks -- clipped funk loops, extreme frequency filters, vocoder vocal snippets, goofy repeated chants -- that have become standard operating practice in the world of DJ music, from Cher to Bob Sinclar. Their long-awaited sophomore release, Discovery, picks up where Homework left off. There's plenty of cyborg vocals and banging disco-house, but there are some new wrinkles in the Daft Punk sound. In general, the Parisian pair (Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo) display a newfound eclecticism that looks beyond the dance floor for kicks. Here, they tackle '80s-synth pop ("Digital Love"), Air-ish downtempo ("Nightvision"), and electro-jazz fusion ("Short Circuit"), alongside their legendary disco-house floor-fillers ("Too Long," the kickin' single "One More Time"). And they've dispensed with the raw, lo-fi experimental sound of Homework in favor of an über-slick production ethic that is totally '80s -- the new age-padded chords, crispy drum sounds, and frilly keyboard wiggles conjure the same vibe as the Reagan-era funk of Prince and Michael Jackson. It's a joyous, irresistible, and over-the-top sound that's destined to be an international nightclub smash in 2001 -- even if it sometimes sounds like 1981.

Daft Punk's Discovery album is the best album i've ever heard. If you buy the CD, the cover shown above is NOT the cover you will receive. I recommend that you guys watch INTERSTELLA 5555 because it is an animation paired with this album. If you buy this CD you will not regret it. One More Time is my favorite song, I believe that it could bring world peace and Something About Us is so depressing I cry every time I hear it!

Discovery by Daft Punk is a fantastic cd! A must have, even if your not into House, Techno, or Dance, check it out! It's GREAT fun to listen to and keeps you smiling. If you haven't seen any of the video's yet try to to as soon as you can they're BRILLIANT all the way from the hit One More Time, through Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.

There are few times when an album is a defining moment for multiple genres, "Discovery" is one of those albums. So much more than a club album, Discovery tries as hard as it can to be a masterpiece, which it accomplishes. from the deep, introspective, and spacey beat of "Voyager" to the Arena Rock Vibe of Aerodynamic, to the gentle, passionate lulluby that is "Something about us" this album doesn't skip a beat. Daft Punk can make anything a masterpiece, whether it be a snippet of an old disco song, or a simple melody, when Daft Punk does it, tey do it well. Like Moby, you hear every imstrument, every genre, and it doesn't go all over the place. This album is one that will be played for a big chunk of time. It truly is the masterpiece it thinks it is. And for the record, yes, it IS better than homework. Homework has boring parts, discovery doesn't

I haven't even heard the whole track and I already love it. 'One More Time' is the best in digital/techno to come out in a long, long time and I LOVE IT! You've got to get this one:)

Daft Punk is a group that can create and manipulate textures so easily and craftily, and this album fully displays their talents. Each song is unique, dynamic, and totally danceable. The beats are contagious, and many of the songs will easily stick in one's head for a prolonged period of time. Though it is not chronologically first in Daft Punk's discography, I would definitely recommend this as an introduction to their music, as it is accessible but never cliche.

Is there anything these two frenchmen can't do? Four years ago, they gave us the little slice of house heaven called Homework, now they have Discovery, a gem of a CD that gives Daft fans cause to trust long delays again. From hard disco funk (Harder, Better Faster Stronger) to looped fiesta craze (Cresendolls) to ambient movie score-type (Nightvision), Daft Punk does not disappoint. If you ahven't got it yet. Now is the time!

As Matt mentioned above this is an outstanding album. It becomes even MORE outstanding when one realizes that Daft Punk took the music from this album and had animation commissioned for it to create a full length story under another name (see below). The animation explains who the characters on the cover of this album.
