Overview

For four hundred years, the Church has led the remnants of humanity as they struggle for survival in the last inhabited city. Echo Hunter 367 is exactly what the Church created her to be: loyal, obedient, lethal. A clone who shouldn’t care about anything but her duty. Who shouldn’t be able to.

When rebellious citizens challenge the Church’s authority, it is Echo’s duty to hunt them down before civil war can tumble the city back into the dark. But Echo hides a deadly secret: doubt. And when Echo’s mission leads her to Lia, a rebel leader who has a secret of her own, Echo is forced to face that doubt. For Lia holds the key to the city’s survival, and Echo must choose between the woman she loves and the purpose she was born to fulfill.

This was a well-written, interesting book. The setting is a Dystopian post-apocalyptic version of Earth in the future. The city is in ruins and the survivors have re-established a way of life. The Church protects the citizens and provides electricity using a combination of machinery connected to a woman they call the Saint, with nuns who are impregnated and bear clones, called Hunters, who act as soldiers and scouts. Echo is one of these Hunters, who is created to be loyal, obedient and lethal. But Echo fights a flaw she tries to keep secret - doubt. The story revolves around what happens when Echo is sent into the city to investigate a possible rebellion. This book became more and more fascinating the further I read, until I didn't want to put it down or have it end! I enjoyed this story and look forward to the release of the follow-up book. I received a copy of this book in a giveaway in exchange for an honest review.
