Spam is evil. http://www.awhartoin.com/mercy-watts-lp.html A.W. Hartoin grew up in rural Missouri, but her grandmother lived in the Central West End area of St. Louis. The CWE fascinated her with it’s enormous houses, every one unique. She was sure there was a story behind each ornate door. Going to Grandma’s house was a treat and an adventure. As the only grandchild around for many years, A.W. spent her visits exploring the many rooms with their many secrets. That’s how Mercy Watts and the fairies of Whipplethorn came to be. As an adult, A.W. Hartoin decided she needed a whole lot more life experience if she was going to write good characters so she joined the Air Force. It was the best education she could’ve hoped for. She met her husband and traveled the world, living in Alaska, Italy, and Germany before settling in Colorado where she now lives with her family, a Great Dane, a skanky cat, and six bad chickens. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this book with its laugh out loud moments.  The characters were well developed and the storyline was flawless.  Can't wait to read more in this series.

Suspense and Humor - You Don't Want toMiss This One In Diver Down, book 2 of the Mercy Watts series, by A W Hartoin we join Mercy as she is preparing for a cruise with her mom, aunt and friend. Of course nothing is simple with Mercy or those in her life.  She encounters a gentleman wanting to hire her to investigate his brother-in-law who he suspects is abusing his sister.  Mercy turns down the job which does her no good because she is dealing with a powerful mob family. Before she knows it the sister and brother-in-law are on same vacation she is and there is a murderer in the group. Most of the book takes place at an island resort.  Hartion paints our settings so well we easily see our characters as the storyline plays out.  The book flows well taking us through suspense and laughter as Hartoin does so well. I enjoyed the second book in the series, found it to be a real page turner, equal to if not better than the first. We got to know our characters better especially Mercy's aunt and mom.  We also saw a bit more independent Mercy. I had hoped for more definiion of Mercy's relationship with the surgeon, Pete, who she seldom sees and the cousin by marriage, Chuck, who she acts likes she sees too much. Come on! Give us some romance, some indication of her emotions, her feelings for Chuck. As with any good series writer Hartoin leaves us with some unanswered questions such as the investigation into how or why Mercy's parents were given their home by the wealthy sisters.II am looking forward to moving to the next book!

When I read the first Mercy Watts mystery (A Good Man Gone) it was so good that I wondered if it was just a fluke, but I just finished Diver Down, the second book in the series that I was fortunate enough to win in a LibraryThing Member Giveaway to review, and I thought it was even better!! This series makes me laugh out loud and want to read passages to everyone around me. I love the humour. I can hear it in my head and the characters, despite their quirkiness, feel real and believable. These books would make an awesome movie or tv series!  Mercy Watts is fun and spunky and I love the thoughts in her head that sometimes come out between what she actually says (especially to her mother!). Between her side-kick/partner Aaron, an older, rumpled, hot dog-obsessed savant- chef that sticks to her like glue, even when she doesn't want him there and her Marilyn Monroe-lookalike Mother (the older version...Mercy looks like the younger version), her mother's sister Aunt Tenne and her cousin Chuck, a police detective , Mercy's life is full of advice she doesn't want, loyalty, love and the occasional rescue when needed. Somehow it all works because the writing flows, the characters are likeable, and the story pulls you in and doesn't let go. I stayed up way too late because I had to finish it!  In Diver Down, Mercy (and Aaron), her Mom, Aunt Tenne and her Mom's friend Dixie go on a *Girls Vacation" to Roatan, Honduras and despite her efforts to avoid it, Mercy gets drawn into investigating possible domestic abuse, attempted murder and a kidnapping. We also begin to find out a few family secrets, although there are still some left to uncover (which means I can't wait to read Book 3!!!).  I highly recommend this book/series to anyone who loves fun mysteries. Mercy has definitely become one of my favourite sleuths and I hope she's around for a lot more adventures! :-)

What an enjoyable cosy mystery! I never had to giggle so much as during this reading. Mercy Watts who is from time to time working as a nurse but is also the daughter of a famous police officer is regularly dropping a clanger. She is with her mum, aunt and a friend on a so called 'girl vacations' which turns out to be far away from being a relaxed one. She tries to protect the daughter of a famous crime boss. During her investigation who is trying to harm the lady Mercy stumbles across other incidents which should be solved as well. Luckily, she has help from Aaron who is is able to appear like a ghost but also can cook fantastically and keeps everybody fed. It's a book I can strongly recommend. (4 1/2 stars)

Another excellent book by A. W. Hortoin. You won't want to put this down as Mercy tries to prevent a murder, "aided" by her unwanted sidekick Aaron. Lots of action, humor and compelling characters. Enjoy!

The Mercy Watts series is outstanding! I received the first book as a free read and I was hooked. Had to buy the next two novels the minute I finished the first book, 'A Good Man Gone', I couldn't wait to see how she would solve the mystery she became involved with.

I have read and enjoyed the characters and plots of both books 1 & 2 of this series but in my opinion this second book was spoilt by the author's obsession with food. How we are to believe that the heroine can look like Marylin Monroe with all the food she packs away is beyond me. Perhaps the author wishes she could eat like that and not put on weight - fat chance. (No pun intended). I will buy book three but if as much space is taken up with food in that book as in this, then I won't be buying book 4. PS: for those who are like me and like to know how long a book is before buying it - is 256 pages long

Love the story and the characters, but oh my gosh I was cringing half the time at all the errors. Poor grammar, wrong words used, bad sentence structure. If it weren't such a fun story I would have quit after one chapter.

Mercy just can caught a break. She stuck on a girls weekend with her mom, aunt, dixie and her now partner aaron. When you think things couldnt get worse they do and Mercy cant help but figure out whats going on and why people keep trying to kill one of the people that are vacationing at the same spot with them. Still the humor and banter between Mercy and Aaron are hilarious. Im really starting to like Chuck her cousin only by marriage and also a cop.

This was a really enjoyable read.  If you are a fan of Stephanie Plum you will love Mercy Watts.  I'm eager to read more in her series!

Having received this book as a gift from the author through LibraryThing’s giveaways I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I read the entire book trying to figure out who the author sounded like and the first author that came to mind was Janet Evanovich BUT this author has more depth…the next series that came to mind while trying to figure out who the author sounds like was the author of the series that had Clara Barton, Student nurse, in it - and I am not sure why since I have not read one of THOSE books in decades. This story had a strong female character that happens to be the daughter of a P.I. and a nurse thrust into a sticky tricky situation while she was expecting to be on a “girl vacation” – it was so much more! I loved her Aunt Tenne’s story and want to know more about that. There is the question of the mansion and how it became the family home. There is more than one lead-in for future stories and romances. Throughout the book there was mention of a boyfriend but he was not present and hunky guy types were hanging about available througout the vacation. The “bad guys” were not anyone I would have considered AND I had read the ending before finishing the book. Good job! I look forward to reading more books by this author! And, I look forward to reading more about the Marilyn Monroe look-alike who plays lead character in this series.
