This book is very well written, and the illustrations really contribute to the young readers understanding of the content. I have always had a difficult time discussing the entire Civil Rights Movement in my classroom. DJ's First Parade does an excellent job pulling several key issues and events from that particular era in American History, and presenting it all in a fashion that is pleasant for readers of all ages.
