I have read most of this author's stand-alone books and one other of his series. This is the first of his Jordan Poteet mysteries and the first book he wrote. It was a fun mystery about a Texan librarian but you can tell it was a first novel.Back Cover Blurb:After a few good years of city life, Jordan Poteet returns to his small hometown of Mirabeau, Texas, to work as a librarian.. Yet his quiet domesticity is shattered when he locks horns with Miss Beta Harcher, the town's prize religious fanatic, in a knock-down drag-out battle over censorship. When Jordan finds her murdered body in the library, he learns that Beta dead is much more dangerous than she ever was alive. Not only for poor Jordy, whom the police are itching to throw the book at, but for countless others. In fact, thanks to a cryptic list the police find stashed next to her fanatical heart, Beta Harcher has the whole town in a death grip....

I was hoping this would be the first of a new, enjoyable series. I was wrong. I had some issues with this book: it's slow moving until the sudden plot twist, which complicated matters WAY too much. The promiscuity. Most of all the casual acceptance of drug use (Cocaine) : "drugs aren't such a big deal. I knew plenty of folks who did coke and such. . . ". Nope, not my kind of book. On to the next author.

I got the book at a godd price so I thought I would try this author. I love books in paper form. Even if old (1994) I wanted this book. What happens to Jordan in this book could happen to anyone. Trying to care for an alzheimer mother I am familiar with, I could relate. I think we have all had a Beta Hatcher, busy body in our lives at some time or another. I laughed and at the same time felt frustrated for Jordan. Having to live with his, mother, sister and her kid. Well let me be frank, this was a could not put down book. I am searching for more books by this author, I am ordering them all, whatever he has written.

I thought it was suppose to be a mystery book , not drama . The part when Jordan finds out who his father is , should have not been included in the book !
