I have used this book quite a bit since I got it. It is very helpful and easy to read. The chapters are laid out according to either ailment or by the food itself. Foods or ailments that do not have a chapter of their very own can be found in the index and are referenced throughout the book. I actually had to hide the book, as family and friends seem to want to "borrow" it on a regular basis. Most of them are ordering their own copy, but for now I get calls all the time asking "I have a headache, arthritis pain, etc... what does your book say?" There is one recipe at the end of each chapter with the ingredients from that chapter. It's been very useful and I reference it at least twice a week. I wholeheartedly recommend this book for anyone that is interested in the health benefits of food.
I loved reading this book because it was packed with information on the foods we love. More than 9,000 scientific studies have proven beyond doubt that food is our best medicine. This book shows which foods are the most healing. In nature animals know which foods to nibble on to get well, with this book...we will too! I think the best way to use this book is to completely read it cover to cover and write down every food you think you need. Then, try to incorporate those foods into your diet. Studies have identified 107 of the most powerful healing foods, spices and herbs. There are some compounds which just cannot be absorbed by the human bloodsteam unless they are eaten in a food. Taking ellagic acid (a cancer fighter) in a pill form doesn't work. It is essential to eat strawberries or other berries in order to obtain ellagic acid. After reading this book you will look at a stawberry pie in a new way. 'Let food be your medicine, and let medicine be your food.' --Hippocrates, 400 B.C. This book also gives helpful hints on how to select produce and keep it fresh. There is also some great information on how to prepare fruits and vegetables. You will find great life saving information: Eating cherries helps to prevent cancer, 'perillyl alcohol' blocks the formation of a variety of cancers and contain a compound called quercetin. This neutralizes cancer-causing agents in the body. It also shields your DNA against cancer. Eating red grapefruits will give you more 'lycopene' which helps protect against heart disease. Ruby Red and Star Ruby are great choices. I really liked the book it was what I expected. the book arrived when the seller said it would. The book is very useful i love it!
Although I found this book an interesting read, I feel that the book entitled 'Curing Illness: Backed by over 500 Scientific Studies' was much more informative. In 'Curing Illness' there are descriptions for many diseases and conditions, with both medical approaches and nutritional approaches. What I like most about this book, is that along with the medical approaches, the numerous possible side-effects are included. Some of the topics include arthritis, asthma, diabetes, heart disease, depression, cancer, obesity, PMS, and ulcers, just to name a few. So I highly recommend that you pick up a copy of this book. It is definitely one that should be on anyone's bookshelf.
