Scott Ski's delightful essays are beautifully crafted gems. Each of the often humorous, occasionally tragic stories in 'Dogged and Determined' take the reader into the world of one of those generous, though probably insane, individuals who rescue the castaways of life. These high maintenance & clever dogs, once bred to make their own decisions about whether or not to obey the silly musher who would have them turn onto thin ice, Siberian Huskies often find themselves the victims of those who were unprepared for the demands. As an owner of 2 Siberian Huskies myself, I can't help but laugh at the clever antics of Scott's pack, nor can I help but compare the condition of my old house, redecorated to accomodate the dogs, to his. Though each is a fine finished story in and of itself, the cumulative impact of Scott's tales is greater than the sum of its parts. A truly moving experience.

I have been privileged to have read Scott Ski's 'Taz Adventures' via the internet as he has posted them. When he graciously decided to publish them in 'hard copy' I jumped at the chance to get one. I even got the autograph of both Taz and Missy (you'll have to read the book to find out who Missy is). Scott Ski also signed my copy, but I am sadly missing the autograph of Robbi, Scott's friend, who figures greatly in these tales. When I was a child in West Texas, I wept secretly (as a 'macho teenager') at Harper Lee's 'To Kill a Mockingbird'. The gentle treatment of pathos that she achieved was unexcelled in my limited experience and it remains so today. I kept waiting on her natural sequel and/or next masterpiece. None forthcame that merited the accolades of her first, so I have languished for decades until I happened (via the Internet) upon the writings of Scott Ski. I don't believe that anyone who loves their fellow creatures, be they human or not, can read this book and not be moved. Scott's writing style is such that he touches the depths of the soul in all of us who have ever loved anything or anybody. The title belies the meaning of the book. Scott calls the book the 'Taz Adventures', but it is really the adventures of Scott as he marches through his daily routine and develops a rapport with a Siberian Husky. If the reader has never been around huskies, it doesn't matter, because Scott gently guides you through the ignominious details of being 'owned' by a Husky. I currently share my abode with fourteen Huskies, and I KNOW that he speaks the truth. This all sounds rather dry, but I'll promise you that if you'll read his book, you will be languishing for his sequel just as I did for Harper Lee's. You'll laugh. You'll cry. But, most of all, you'll be amazed at what this man can do with words. Buy the book! You'll thank me, if these words convinced you to go ahead and plop the cash.

This book is a classic for anyone who has ever owned a dog. You will laugh, you will cry and you will come away from each story feeling as if you have been genuinely enriched. If you like Chicken Soup stories, you will find these much better. Not just a warm, fuzzy feeling, these stories are cohesive, intelligent, insightful and really offer an adventure that anyone can truly enjoy. Sharp, smart, pithy little tales that take only a few minutes each to read, but last in your memory and heart. Scott Ski is the new James Herriot and I truly believe his writing will become a classic. 10,000 people have been reading his little stories online every week for over half a decade. TAZ Adventures are a real Internet classic. Finally, we are blessed to have the best of them in one volume.
