This book contains two serious flaws for a knitter of any skill level: first, yarn amounts are quoted only by weight, not yardage and second, failure to classify yarns according to the Standard Yarn Weight System as developed by the Craft Yarn Council of America. Unless you plan to use exactly the yarn specified, you are dependent on guage and needle size to determine the appropriate weight, but still would not be able to determine yardage without considerable research. If this book was intended as an advertisement for Rowan yarns, that should have been clearly stated. The author's own words abnout substituting yarn state 'You will need to take care if you do this [substitute yarn], because all the patterns have been worked out mathematically to the specified yarn.' Exactly why yardages and weights are used in every modern knitting book.
