I was completely and happily surprised by the quality of this book when it arrived in the mail today. I haven't subscribed to the magazine before (although the bonus subscription that comes with the book was the major reason I purchased it), so I don't know whether the material is largely repeated from past issues, but I can say that the quality was far above other DIY design books I have seen in the past. The cover is sturdy and beautiful, the pages are glossy, visually pleasing, and well organized, and the ribbon place-marker makes it ideal for gift-giving and coffee table or bedside display. Although the photographs are the focal point of the book, the information given on the pages is well-written and concise. On my first perusal I intended to only flip through the pages, but suddenly found that not only had I read through the first two chapters without hardly realizing it, but had also learned and been inspired in the process! This guide gives beginners all the basics and more intermediate designers plenty of fodder for fresh projects including a fair-sized "Black Book" of design resources in the back. If you're looking for beautiful, personalized designer style made practical for real, lived-in homes, then this is the book you'll want to read.

This is an absolute staple reference book for anyone interested in interior design. Everyone in the design world knows of the late Domino Magazine which sadly folded before it's time. This magazine was a trendsetter and watcher for all of us, and I am so happy to still have a little piece of them sitting on my coffee table. This is a wonderful collection of photos and references for professionals or novice decorators alike. Even two years after its release, it holds its own in any designers library.

Several repeated images from Domino magazine, but this time around, they are used as teaching points. Room by room, this book demonstrated design principles, with plenty of examples. I especially liked the "Domino effect" sections, with designers showcasing the items they used, then on the next page, you can see the whole room put together. Good effort at demystifying the design process.

I'm in the process of buying a house and this was the first decorating book I picked up at the library, somewhat at random. So I can't speak to how original the material is, just how helpful. After finishing this, I'm quite sad that the magazine (Domino) is no more. I would have subscribed. The photos are lovely, of course. The furniture is not totally out of reach for the average person. The case studies and the mix-and-match ideas were particularly helpful. There's one section where a room has the same furniture arranged three different ways, depending on the focus; I would have loved to see that done many more times with additional rooms. It would have been nice to have more than one page worth of help on determining your own style; I still have no idea there. Nice resources list in the back.

As an aspiring interior designer, I absolutely loved this book. All of the designs extremely well thought, interesting, livable, and practical. Not only were there photos of room designs, there was also valuable information on space planning, the order in which to do parts of a room makeover, and informational pages on different styles of furniture. Another fun part of each chapter was how to mix different styles and incorporate your personal taste into each room of your home. Many praises for this beautiful book!

After hearing about Domino's "The Book of Decorating" for so long, I finally broke down and bought it. I'm so glad I did! The book is full of helpful home decorating tips and beautiful images of real rooms. There's advice on everything from choosing paint colors, to arranging and hanging artwork, to mixing and matching furniture. The book is broken down by chapters on individual rooms (bedroom, dining room, entryway, etc.), which makes it very easy to navigate. Overall, it is an informative and inspiring resource for anyone who loves home decor. I'll definitely be enjoying this book for years to come!

I was never so disappointed to lose a magazine as I was when Domino vacated the shelves. The book, "Domino" is a collection of what made the magazine unique. It speaks to the average person, offers practical solutions to home decor, is a great resource and should be in anyone's permanent collection of books who is interested in creating a "home". The book is well laid out, has great photographs and illustrations that help the average person take the mystic out of interior designers' "decorating". My idea of heaven is a great cup of coffee, lots of pillows to prop me up and a lazy day enjoying every page of this book. I am inpired by every page, always find something I missed the last time I looked at it and never tire of its beauty. Congrats to those who put it together. A job well done. Now... can you work your magic and get "Domino" the magazine back on the shelves????

I enjoyed this book, and it is definitely a must. Home style for the modern person. It does not focus on any specific design rules, more of what the average person wants, based on their style and personality. The only thing that I am sorry about is that Domino Magazine is no longer in publication, so there is no way to get anymore of this information on a monthly basis. As a result, it is important to get a copy of this. My only problem is that I wanted more, the book was too short.

I love this book. I saw the ad in a magazine and instantly knew that I wanted this book. I found it in stores, for much more than it was online so I decided to buy it off of barnes and nobles. It came in the mail sooner than I expected too! It's a great book for beginnger and professional decorators. They give good directions to certain things and good ideas (ie: what to do in a small space, etc). The only thing I wish they did was give a kind of "360" view of the rooms rather than just one room. Overall, I'm very happy I made it. I love having it in my collection.
