Definitely not your grandmother's knitting book. Thanks to Hollywood's newfound obsession and updated, stylish designs, a whole new generation has caught on to the art of knitting. For those just starting out or veteran knitters, expert Donna Kooler's newest Encyclopedia of Knitting, will get those needles clicking. This comprehensive guide covers all the basics, from the history of knitting, tools, and materials, to how-to instructions for 150 stitches and stitch patterns, with tons of photos and diagrams to show the way. Includes instructions for both right-handed with narrative directions and symbols to make learning easier. Contemporary projects by today's top knitting designers, such as Lily Chin and Nicky Epstein, are suitable for a variety of experience levels and include a man's vest, ,a dog sweater and decorative pillows. If the runaway success of her two previous Encyclopedia volumes is any indication (and we certainly think so!), this one has bestseller written all over it.

While her patterns are nice, they do not stand out from other pattern books - but her 150 stitch patterns are amazing! Not only are they photographed close up so you can really see the stiches, but the directions are very easy to follow AND she includes a chart that shows the stitch through symbols. For visual learners like myself the inclusion of charts makes the directions easier to follow . . . Overall, one of the best stitch books out there! [And I love to try new stitches so I have quite a few books =) ]
This book is just an expensive book of patterns. The instructions on readding patterns and executing stitches is completely inadequate. I have patterns with stictches that are unfamiliar to me and they were not covered at all in the "encyclopedia/" Google kitting stiitches online and you will bind far better information for free!
The book itself is well worth the price; however, it arrived with both the front and back covers peeling apart. I give 5 stars to the book itself, but only 2 for BN's shipping methods.
