Overview

In Wendy Walker's thrilling novel Don't Look for Me, the greatest risk isn't running away. It's running out of time.

One night, Molly Clarke walked away from her life.

She doesn't want to be found.

Or at least, that's the story.

The car abandoned miles from home.

The note found at a nearby hotel.

The shattered family that couldn't be put back together.

They called it a “walk away.”

It happens all the time.

Women disappear, desperate to leave their lives behind and start over.

But is that what really happened to Molly Clarke?

At the start of this exemplary psychological thriller from Walker (The Night Before), guilt-ridden Molly Clarke runs out of gas in Hastings, Conn., fives years to the day after the death of her younger daughter, Annie, for which she blames herself. She gets out of her car and starts walking, but never reaches home. Two days later, the Hastings police find a handwritten note Molly left in a hotel room asking her family not to look for her. Two weeks later, 21-year-old Nicole, Molly’s older daughter, receives a tip from a woman who claims she saw Molly the day she disappeared getting into a stranger’s pickup truck. Despite the strained relationship between Nicole and Molly since Annie’s death, Nicole decides to investigate. When she learns of another woman who vanished from Hastings, she tries to determine whether the two disappearances are connected. Chapters from Molly’s perspective that reveal her present whereabouts heighten the tension. Distinctive, well-developed characters complement the skillfully paced plot. This moving look at the bond between a mother and her children reinforces Walker’s place at the top of the genre. 75,000-copy announced first printing. Agent: Wendy Sherman, Wendy Sherman Assoc. "Wendy Walker’s novels are addictive. Like, controlled-substance addictive. And Don’t Look for Me, a thriller as intense and relentless as the metallic rain slashing across its jacket, ranks (as of this writing, at least) as Walker’s reigning champ: a book that blood-samples her earlier work — the poignant drama of All Is Not Forgotten, the ambition of Emma in the Night, the narrative daring of The Night Before — and swirls them into a bold new mixture, both potent and complex. "—A.J. Finn, New York Times bestselling author of The Woman in the Window

"Don't Look for Me is a gripping psychological thriller from Wendy Walker with unexpected twists and an enjoyable momentum. Throw in the fact that it's set in that strange country around Route 7 in far western Massachusetts and you've got a cracking mystery on your hands." – Adrian McGinty, New York Times bestselling author of The Chain

"Wendy Walker has done it again, created a nail-biter that’ll keep you up all night. But Don’t Look for Me is so much more than a twisty thriller. If you love fast-paced page-turners with relatable, flawed characters, look no further!" – Angie Kim, bestselling author of Miracle Creek

“Wendy Walker hits it out of the park once again in her newest psychological suspense Don’t Look for Me, a riveting and intimate story of unimaginable loss which raises the question: When you’ve already done the unthinkable, can there be any chance of redemption? I didn’t simply read this book—I devoured it!” – Karen Dionne, author of the #1 international bestseller The Marsh King’s Daughter

OCTOBER 2020 - AudioFile

Narrator Therese Plummer does a fine job keeping this psychological suspense real. Molly Clarke, who is involved in a family tragedy, is in a lot of pain. As her husband and children pull away from her, Plummer captures Molly's self-doubt, hurt, and guilt. During a terrible storm, Molly leaves her car and walks away from it all. Or could her disappearance be foul play? Plummer is terrific at shaping characters. A girl named Alice is central to the book. Plummer’s performance reflects Alice’s age, immaturity, and caution. She is good with other characters as well. This audiobook is entertaining, though some may find it a little predictable. Plummer is a definite plus. G.S. © AudioFile 2020, Portland, Maine
