People often think that if they can just find the "perfect person" they will live happily ever after. But God astounded Jason and Katie by showing them that being a part of His story is far more romantic than pursuing any personal fairy tale.

Growing up, Katie and Jason dreamed of meeting their respective Prince Charming and Lady Love. But although they tried to pen their supposed soulmates into their life script, their "perfect matches" always wandered off the page.

That's because God had a bigger, better story in mind.

About the Author

Katherine Ladny Mitchell makes her cottage-like home in Chattanooga, Tennessee with her husband, Jason, and their four Mitchell munchkins: Elijah, Selah, Caleb, and Steward. A lover of musicals, singing, writing, and rhyme, Katherine started playing with words as a child. She never outgrew this habit.

In addition to coauthoring "Don't Settle for a Fairy Tale," Katie has also written a children's book called, "Dr. Hickerup The Hiccup Healing Man." Elijah's infantile hiccups (and Jason's use of the funny non-word, "hickerup") inspired Katherine's creation of Dr. Hickerup - the first whimsical expert in the Up People series. Katherine wanted to write a fun, rollicking story that would delight not only children, but also the adults reading to them.(

"I think children's stories should have a plot. I wanted to write something that would make children smile and grownups smirk with a classic problem-meets-solution format. I hope with Dr. Hickerup I have succeeded in creating something fun and encouraging to engage both audiences."

Katherine graduated with a B.A. in Sociology from Covenant College and is a member of the Chattanooga Writer's Guild. Her Don't Settle for a Fairy Tale chapter, "An Enchanted Engagement," won a writing contest in 2008. Katherine published another piece, "Personal Presence," in Gary Chapman's Love is a Verb Devotional in October, 2011. Chicken Soup for the Soul: Married Life included Katherine's short story, "Our Second First Date," in May, 2012. Katherine has also freelanced locally for Chattanooga's HealthScope and CityScope magazines.

When she's not writing, Katherine enjoys singing, gardening, getting together with girlfriends, homeschooling her kids, and drinking PG Tips tea during their nap time. She also randomly breathes fire and twirls poi (two torches on wires), and enjoys her modest collection of porcelain tea cups.
