Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
“If Aimee Ray wants to write it, I want to read it. If she wants to design it, I want to stitch it. So when I received a review copy of the third book in her Doodle Stitching series, I had to do a little happy dance. Embroidery and Beyond focuses on adding techniques to your repertoire: cross-stitch, decorative stitches, applique, redwork, crewel, sashiko, shisha, cutwork, and stumpwork. And it includes plenty of adorable Aimee Ray designs for you to use in trying these techniques. As always, the instructions are simple, clear, and thorough; the diagrams are helpful; the photos are gorgeous.” —CraftGossip.com
Library Journal
The third book in Ray's popular series (after Doodle Stitching: The Motif Collection) addresses embroidery methods such as crewel, sashiko, and cutwork. Each section begins with an introduction to the technique, including basic stitches, followed by a selection of patterns highlighting the method. As with the other volumes in the series, the motifs are cute and modern—you won't find anything fussy here. This is a book for beginners; experienced stitchers won't find a lot of depth or new information. VERDICT Crafters who enjoyed Ray's two earlier books will appreciate this further exploration of hand stitching. For further reading, direct embroiderers to books by Jenny Hart (Embroidered Effects) and Katherine Shaughnessy (The New Crewel).
