First time reader of K. Vale and I will definitely be reading more of her work.  Double Takes was an endearing, sweet tale of working your way out of a bad situation.  Giovanni (Gio) Savale is the lead singer of a rock band that topped the charts in the nineties.  After years of drug and alcohol abuse, he is now 40 years old and trying to get his band back on the charts while going through a horrible divorce and custody battle.  On top of that, he signs off to do a reality show in order to pay the attorney fees for the divorce.  He is in a bad place and every day he loses a little more of himself by doing the reality show. In order to boost the show’s ratings, the produces introduces a new “love interest” for Gio.  His name is Kyrie.  Though Gio does admit to having relations in the past with males, those only occurred while under the influence of some substance.  He is taken back by the prospect of pretending to date a man, but agrees to it anyway in order to keep the money he’s already been paid for doing the show.  Gio lives his life under the constant eye of the cameras, so when he goes to an antique store to sell items his ex-wife left behind, he is pleased to have the owner of the establishment refuse the cameras to film the store.   The owner of the establishment is Lance Garrett.  Gio is instantly attracted to Lance and Lance makes it know that the feeling is mutual.  Now, Gio has to juggle not only his new on-camera love interest, he has to sneak around to meet up with the man he is truly interested in.   I instantly fell in love with all the characters.  Gio is genuine in getting his life back on track.  He wants to be there for his son and he wants his band to succeed once again.  Even though is ex-wife is a cruel woman, he still cares for her well-being.  When I first read the synopsis, I thought Lance would be a shy/geeky character, but he is everything but that.  Lance makes his feelings know and is no way backwards about telling Gio what is on his mind.  Each character has a rough past that they had to fight or is currently fighting to overcome.  I even liked the on-screen love interest, Kyrie.  Hopefully he will get a story. I did not know this book was part of a series.  I had no problems reading this story without reading the first book.  Overall, this was an entertaining read.  Not too deep, but had just enough angst to keep it interesting. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was given to me free by the author in exchange for an honest review. This story is about 2 men; Gio, a musician in the middle of a divorce and child custody battle, and Lance, a man who owns a small resale and auction business. Gio is stuck under contract to do a "Reality Show" with his band and unfortunately the producers want less reality. Lance and Gio start dating off camera because Lance refused to be on and a twink is brought onto the show as Gio's love interest. We find out toward the end why Lance refused to be on camera. I thought this was a sweat story that moved along mostly at a nice pace. I thought we could have found out about Lance's past a little sooner than the last couple of chapters. I found myself waiting for something to happen and I wanted to move it along (maybe two chapters befor it happened). Not too long but long enough for me to notice. This story is not filled with a lot of sex, but enough. I like more story anyway. I recommend this read.
