Double Triple Koppel: Concertos by Anders Koppel based on 0 ratings. 1 reviews.
Here we have 2 world premieres which must be deemed unique in terms of scoring: recorder, saxophone and orchestra; mezzo saxophone, cello, harp and orchestra. Both works are ambitious, i.e. 39 and 38 minutes respectively. The compositional approach is basically a synthesis of improvisational and rhapsodic elements. The exploration of colors and textures takes precedence over the working out of the thematic ideas which are rather meager and unremarkable. This style of writing used to be called “Crossover”. It’s not new or particularly innovative despite the hyperbolic claims expressed in the liner notes. Still, some credit is due to the soloists, especially Benjamin Koppel and, the extraordinary, Michala Petri for doing their damnedest to pull this off. Too bad the results weren’t more successful. The Super Audio sound is robust and sufficiently lifelike.
