The people that have read this book, on average, have rated Dove Song with five stars. I would agree with this, because, after reading this book, I knew a bit more about the Vietnam War. The main family in this book had a father going to the war, and being MIA (missing in action). The mother is very fragile and delicate, so it's hard for her to cope with her husband's 'bad luck.' She becomes very sick, and her children have to strive to save their mother's little amount of sanity left in her. But don't the children have to deal with this, too? I personally thought that Dove Song was intriguing because it was a fast read. In other words, a page-turner. It was hard to put down. The completely realistic action made me feel like I was in the main character's shoes. The author, Kristine Franklin, did an excellent job with characterization. I saw who the main characters were and what they looked like. I recommend this book to all readers out there!

I read a lot of books and this one is definitely one of the best. It tells the life of a little girl and her brother trying so hard to take care of their sick mother. They promised their dad that they would take care of her while he was over in Vietnam. After keeping secrets. poor little Bobbie Lynn is saved by her friend.
