Down Deep by Virna DePaul

He's here to score and he always wins.

Heath Dawson: football star, gorgeous man candy, and panty-dropper extraordinaire. He was also Camille Pollert's first crush. But then he humiliated her at a high school football game, and while she got her revenge, she also closed off her heart.

Ten years later, Camille is a football photographer and single mother, and her old crush returns with a vengeance when she sees Heath again. He's just as handsome, but now he's a man. A man she can no longer resist.

Heath hardly recognizes the skinny girl he knew in high school, but he can't deny the attraction he feels for the curvaceous and beautiful woman Camille has become. He wants her, and he always gets what he wants.

Just as the two of them start to realize they might be perfect for one another, reality rears its ugly head. Can Heath and Camille score a touchdown for their love? Or will they fumble the play and be parted once again?

When I first came across this author, it was with her Para Ops series, and I absolutely loved it! And since that series has been put on hold, I've decided to give her contemporary romance a try. While not her best read, to me at least, I still find this book to be ok. What got me was how predictable this book was. If anyone knows me, they know I hate predictability in a book. Granted, it might not be written the same as other books you've read, but it's there nonetheless. There were a few instances in which I was confused on whose POV it was, as well as the wording. I had a few eye rolls as well. As I've stated earlier, it's still an ok read.

I enjoyed this book. I smiled and laughed out loud in parts. The ending was a little rushed

Camille has a HUGE crush on Heath as a high school student. He was a popular high school football player and she was a yearbook photographer who was often mistaken as a boy. Camille, raised by her sports-loving father, was more of a tomboy vs a girly girl. During a football game, Heath mistakenly called her a "waterboy". She was so embarrassed, that she sought revenge by placing a compromising picture in the yearbook. Heath wasn't happy about it, but thought she showed some spunk. Years later, Camille gets the chance of a lifetime when she's asked to take pictures of a pro football team--Heath's team. She's a divorced, single mom and really could use the money. So she accepts the job. At first, Heath doesn't recognize her. He soon realizes that this is his "waterboy" all grown up. They soon find themselves falling for each other, but then Heath backs away saying she's a distraction and messing up his football career. Will Camille be able to forgive him again and let Heath into their lives? I loved this novel! It's the first in Virna DePaul's new sports series. Heath's interactions with Emma, a huge football fan herself, are heartwarming and sweet. It's HILLARIOUS when Heath and his football pals attend Emma's tea-pirate party and have to sit in chairs that are too small in order to have proper tea! One could also easily identify with Camille's insecurities due to her upbringing. Lastly, I thought that Heath's "gift" of the whistle back to Camille was endearing. I highly recommend this novel for any of the sports enthusiasts out there. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

(3.75 stars) Short, sweet, fun, flirty with just a tiny bit of heartache. Camille had her young heart crushed by Heath years ago in high school. 10 years later he's a famous football player and she's trying to land a photographer position with the NFL and has been assigned to his team. I liked their connection through her dad. Their banter was hysterical. They had me cracking up one minute and then panting the next :) I am definitely interested reading the rest of the series.

From a young age Heath Dawson had it drilled into him he will only amount to anything if he has football in his life. He loved baseball and Coach Pollart's when he was little but his dad told him football was his everything. You know when you are young you hang on every word .... like you should .... of what your parents tell you, but when you grow up some other things try to get in the way .... sometimes they are the BEST things one world .... LOVE AND HAPPINESS. The only thing Camille Pollart ever wanted to be was a sports photographer. When a certain football player on high school tried to give her some advice one night it turned her world upside down. But Camille never let go of her dreams even during college when she meets her hockey husband (ex) and have a bright daughter she never let her dream go. But when she meets that one football player again can she let him push his way into her life and maybe looks her dream. Heath can't get Camille out of his mind after seeing her after all those years and we all know girls have that little thing in the back of there heart called strings that pull on them when they know things should be they always wanted them. To be with your first love ! Can Heath and Camille get over all of the past memories that seem to shadow over them or will on little whistle mean the world to them ! LOVED the pulls and pushes of this story !! The HEART know what the HEART wants !!

Down Deep tells the story of Camille and Heath, who met in high school. Camille had a huge crush on Heath, but unfortunately he broke her heart. Life moved on and 10 years later Heath is a star in the NFL and Camille a sports photographer, who has been tasked with shooting a sports calendar. Camille is divorced with a 7 year old daughter who idealizes Heath. He remembers Camille and does his best to gain her forgiveness. When they start sleeping together, will it end with a happy ending or a broken heart? I have mixed feelings about this book, I liked some of the characters, especially Camille's daughter and her best friend. It was hard to connect with both main characters and I wish they had communicated more. If you like sports romance, this book is for you! I was given a free copy for an honest review.

After being embarrassed back in high school by the star football player who Camille had a huge crush on for forever, she hasn’t forgotten the hurtful things that Heath had said to her and now she will be seeing him again ten years later. Heath is now a star NFL player and Camille is divorced with a daughter and has become a photographer who will be taking pictures of the team that Heath plays for. So all the questions start for Camille as to if he will remember her, if he’ll remember what he said to her that hurt her so badly, and will he remember the picture that she ended up putting in their school yearbook all those years ago to get back at him. Heath can’t be bogged down with a serious relationship because he has seen what that has down to some of his teammate’s careers but his “water girl” is oh so tempting. Camille is definitely not that skinny looking tomboy from back in high school. She is now filled out, with long hair and has become a great professional photographer. Is Camille ready to forgive Heath for comments he made years ago and even then is she willing to risk the job opportunity she may have with the NFL as one of their photographers? Both Heath and Camille have a lot at stake but watching them go through the feelings that they have for each other makes this book a great sports read. You won’t be disappointed.

Down Deep by Virna DePaul....This is a great start to a new series, it was truly a page turner. Heath a hot gorgeous football star and Camille a beautiful football photographer, which has a past in high school. Will these two be able to get over the past and make a relationship work. I love Virna DePaul writing style, the books always flows nicely and keeps you wanting more. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
