To date, ten horses have won all three races that make up the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred racing. This book details their racing careers in a rather colloquial, folksy style that is a bit unusual for such a book-though it does break up the inevitable recitation of racing times, win percentages, and betting odds. Included in each tale is the human element, an account of the jockeys and trainers who were part of the winning teams. While an entire book could be made from the story of any of these horses, as in Laura Hillenbrand's Seabiscuit: An American Legend, Shoop, a former racing history columnist for Texas Horse Racing Weekly and author of another racing monograph, does a nice job of comparing and contrasting the careers of some of the greatest racehorses of the 20th century and putting them in context.
