John Tucker crafts a very purposeful and driven story in this novel, which takes an average kid on a adventure. As a debut novel for an aspiring writer I would have to say that this novel shows strong character, and dedication to an idea. There were some areas in this book which could use to have another look over by an editor, but the story is interesting. I will say I feel as though the adventure fell into the laps of the children much too easily, and I usually like to see a bit more struggle before the adventure unfolds. This book mixes christian values with fantasy/adventure plot lines. It's an interesting device for illuminating a message, and the character does a good job of becoming the message, and guiding the reader into the moral that the author is looking to bring home. Other then the few grammatical errors I noticed, and the few occasional too simple sentences, I think this book can really be enjoyed by readers of all ages, as long as you have an open mind to religious beliefs. It's not really subtle, but I didn't find it offensive either, only just noticeable as a subplot of a fantasy novel. As an avid reader of fantasy and dragon books, I think that Tucker has a good basis to a very engaging, interesting, and well thought out novel, and with a bit of editing and some reformatting of the book (text is much larger then an average novel), I think this could find a place on many people's bookshelves, and enjoyable read for young adults, especially as a parent's choice for teaching positive lessons. *I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
