Ashanti sees things she shouldn't see; dragons doing things civilized dragons aren't supposed to do. Worse yet, they aren't random killings by those wanting to explore their primitive sides. They're planned, calculated attempts to halt the races of people from interferring with plans for a war that will leave them enslaved if it isn't prevented. But she has no intention of standing aside while and allowing her visions to become reality.

About the Author

I am an author of fantasy, in all its many sub-genres. Helping other writers and supporting fabulous authors is one of my passions. When I'm not writing or surfing my social networking sites, I can be found on the slopes, the hiking trails, or on horseback. As a native Oregonian, I enjoy the outdoors almost as much as the worlds I create on the pages. No need to travel to the Great Northwest though, you can find me here, on my blog, and Monday night's on Twitter where I co-moderate the #WritersRoad chat with my good friend TS Tate.

I really enjoyed this short story/prequel. I will definitely be getting the rest of the series. About 34 pages on my nook hd+ and it left plenty of mystery without being vague or confusing.

Fantastic Empire Story! This is a companion story to Heather's Dragon Empire novel. The insight into Ashanti and the first of her visions was great. Rich storytelling, interesting characters, and a world that I wanted to spend more time in had me looking for The Dragon Empire as soon as I finished this. I'm curious to see if McCorkle brings the child from this story into later books. Highly recommend for fans of epic fantasy.

This is a 15-page prequel. Or something. It does not come to a solid enough conclusion to rank as a short story.
