Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
About this fourth book starring the beguiling blue reptile, PW remarked, ``Pilkey's narrative understatement and cheery, heavily defined artwork once again form a humorous, harmonious whole.'' Ages 6-8. (Sept.)
School Library Journal
Gr 1-2-- The loveable blue dragon stars in his fourth book for beginning readers. This time, he rescues a fat gray cat from freezing in the snow, decides to keep it, and quite logically names it ``Cat.'' The only problem is that Dragon knows nothing about caring for pets, or the smelly puddles they leave. When he finally gets to the pet store for advice, he leaves with all the things Cat will need to live comfortably, but forgets Cat. When Dragon finally finds his new companion, he is in for quite a surprise. The simple cartoon illustrations in vibrant watercolor and pencil enhance the gentle humor of the story and the characters as well. A book that will be loved by Dragon's fans, and one that's sure to win him many new friends. --Rachel Fox, Port Washington Pub . Lib . , NY

Dav manages to write books that are funny for kids and also funny for the adults reading them out loud. This is one of my favorite books and my kids (age 4 & 7) also love it.

My two-year-old granddaughter loves this book. She has almost memorized the entire story. She begs for it and I enjoy reading it - a double bonus. I am going to buy all the dragon books by Pilkey.

I liked this book because everything Dragon does is very funny. He sure didn't know what cats eat!

Not only is this book easy for a beginning reader to read - it is also a very fun story! The illustrations are adorable and make it even more fun. I am a nanny and have no children of my own but I do plan on buying the book for my own collection.

I read this book once and now my son wants it read every night before bed. Our favorite chapter is three when Dragon learns the hard way how to care for his pet PU! My son's favorite part is Dragon's pet using the toilet. The 'Dragon' books are great for a first grade reader, I especially like them because it makes reading fun and the humor is for every age.

My grandchildren love the series. The stories keep their attention and they can't wait to see how each one turns out. This story shows the mishaps you may have when "a pet owns you". Dragon takes good care of his "Cat". Lovely story with a funny ending.

If you're kids have mastered the early books, but don't quite have the focus to read a young adult book, this is an excellent Tweener for them. It has a table of contents, and breaks down the story into separate chapters. It is a very charming and funny book as well. Dav Pilkey is a great author. We were introduced to him last year, when our kids starting reading the Hallow Weiner. His books are wonderful.
