The Dream-Hunter (Dream-Hunter Series #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

In the ethereal world of dreams, there are champions who fight to protect the dreamer and there are demons who prey on them...

Arik is such a predator. Condemned by the gods to live eternity without emotions, Arik can only feel when he's in the dreams of others. For thousands of years, he's drifted through the human unconscious, searching for sensation. Now he's finally found a dreamer whose vivid mind can fill his emptiness.

Dr. Megeara Kafieri watched her father ruin himself and his reputation as he searched to prove Atlantis was real. Her deathbed promise to him to salvage his reputation has now brought her to Greece where she intends to prove once and for all that the fabled island is right where her father said it was. But frustration and bad luck dog her every step. Especially the day they find a stranger floating in the sea. His is a face she's seen many times.... in her dreams.

What she doesn't know is that Arik holds more than the ancient secrets that can help her find the mythical isle of Atlantis. He has made a pact with the god Hades: In exchange for two weeks as a mortal man, he must return to Olympus with a human soul. Megeara's soul.

With a secret society out to ruin her expedition, and mysterious accidents that keep threatening her life, Megeara refuses to quit. She knows she's getting closer to Atlantis and as she does, she stumbles onto the truth of what Arik really is.

For Arik his quest is no longer simple. No human can know of a Dream-Hunter's existence. His dream of being mortal has quickly turned into his own nightmare and the only way to save himself will be to sacrifice the very thing he wanted to be human for. The only question is, will he?

Sherrilyn Kenyon is one of the best writers I have come across she has a way of making you think the characters in her books are real people and you get so caught up in the story that you live it with them. Each book in the Dark Hunter and Dream hunter tell the story of one main Character how they became the way they are and how love helped them conquer. At least so far in what I have read. I wish I could spend time with her and pick her brain to get insight in how she creates such wonderful stories. She would become a best friend. If you have a chance read all her books it is worth it. My personal favorite is the first book I read of hers which was Acheron I actually cried at what happened to Acheron and wanted to console him. I am sorry I don't like to tell the story cause it ruins it for me so If you choose this book or another Sherrilyn's you won't be disappointed Ok I will say the men in her books see beauty that comes from the heart. Each Man has a past that has been so brutal that they have close themselves off to love but then you have to read to find out. I like how even when someone deems themself unloveable someone finds something to love in them and it changes thier life.

When I initially read the review on this book, I was enthralled. Being fascinated by Greek Mythology had something to do with it too. The names grabbed me as well. Arik & Geary. She has this thing for coming up with great names. To me the choice of a name for the hero and heroine is as important as the book itself. The hero, Arik, was fascinating in that he came from her dreams. How unusual and great is that? I was captivated by this concept. This story had me hooked from beginning to end. Sherrilyn Kenyon made me feel like I was there in Greece along with the characters. And what characters they were! Her secondary characters were as wonderful as the main ones. Especially Tory and Persephone. I loved them! All of the descriptions of the Greek Gods and Goddesses just came to life for me. Their interaction with each other made them very real. It was just a beautiful love story. I hated for it to end. Night Play is my favorite book by her and this one is next so far. I'm sure there will be others as I continue reading the series.

Sherrilyn Kenyon has long been one of my favorite authors and this book easily keeps pace with its companion Dark Hunter books. The Dream Hunters have been briefly mentioned in several of the Dark Hunter books, but now we get to explore their world - This first book should be read just before "Acheron" to keep a sequential flow of events, but if read out of order, no harm done as this book can easily stand independently. The Dream Hunter world opens up a new bunch of characters, and with Arik as the first, I am definitely wanting more! Follow Arik's journey from Olympus to Greece as he learns what it truly means to sacrifice for love!

I was looking for a series to replace my JR Ward series since I was all caught up. Sherrily Kenyon has done this and more. I am so enjoying this series. I am now on book #8 and will continue reading them all until I have completed hers too!

A heart-rending start of the book, but then a journey to Atlantis and love. A promise to her dad, may cause her to lose even more than she already has. Her entire family!

Dream Hunter is the first book in the Dream Hunter series. My local state has an audio book library, and I found this treasure available, and since I have yet to read the series, I thought that I needed to give it a try. This book was a riot of fun, passion and some Greek adventure. This series is connected to the Dark Hunter series, and we see in this book and other books in the series, connection to characters to the Dark Hunter series. Dream Hunter is a story that just won my heart over from the beginning, And the narrator, is one that from what I have seen has done most of the books in these connecting series, and he is fantastic. It is rare for me to love a male narrator, since I have mostly listened to female narrators, but he is one of the best I have ever listened to. I loved the way this story develops, and it has some twists that are unexpected, and boy was I surprised over a few things, and what became most endearing was seeing how these two fight for a future together. Dream Hunter is a story that won me over, with these charming characters, a story line that is packed with adventure, greek gods, and a romance that is bound to captivate you. What was most provocative about this story was seeing the way these two come to fight for one another. Arik, who at first is conceited and arrogant, but when he learns the error of his ways is willing to give up his own soul for the woman he loves. Then we have Megeara, when she learns the complete truth about Arik, she goes to drastic lengths to bring him back to her, even if that means facing Hades herself, loved the courage and tenacity and the will to be together. The supporting characters are quite fun and added a certain flair to the story that gave the story the humorous edge it needed.
