Gen is the appealing heroine of this novel about love and work. And it has one of my favourite lines. She is having an affair with a married man who works in the same company., She passes him on the corporate ladder but still obsesses over him. When she wants him to leave his wife, he consoles her by saying, "Half an oaf is better than one." This is such an intelligent and funny novel .
