A crisply written, whip-smart thriller. Many people are comparing Maden to the late Tom Clancy, and I think a wide portion of Clancy's audience will gladly adopt him as a worthy successor in the techno-thriller genre, but I would compare Drone to the early works of Michael Crichton. There is a sense of prophetic wonder and warning in the description of the (very real) weapons and systems our national powers have at their desposal. Maden clearly finds the science fascinating, and writes with enthusiastic clarity about the implications of the various advances in technology that you probably had no idea had taken place. But he seems even more intent on exploring the various outcomes (both good and bad) of implementing these advances in national defense. What makes this is thriller is the fast-paced narrative and machine-gun dialogue, but the real thrill is in the feeling that as you read, Maden is granting you a glimpse into the future.

I stayed up late one night to finish off this novel. Great debut to series. The political aspects were as enjoyable as the action sequences.
