We all can relate to this book. We are all the bully, the victim, or the bystander. If you are a bully you might learn a lesson, and if you are a bystander, maybe you¿ll learn to stick up for others, and if you are the victim, you will probably relate to Anna. This book makes you cringe, how could anyone be that cruel? When Anna is bullied by a compelling, vicious girl named Haley, it starts off with rude comments, and then gets worse. The way that Anna feels about all of this, might even lead to death.

This book really gives you a firsthand insight as to what teenagers go through. When you read this, you are in the story and can see all this happening to you as it is happening to Anna. My attention is hard to capture when it comes to reading. However, this has become my favorite book. It seems to be written by someone who has been through all this pain when you read it, you feel the pain that every character is going through. It truly is an extraordinary piece of literature.

A really disturbing view of the effects of bullying. Anna is bright, talented and new at school. She is befriended by Hayley. Soon Hayley turns on Anna. The story is told through the eyes of another girl, Melanie, and through the text of Anna's diary. I started to read the book and couldn't put it down until I found out what happened to Anna.

Drowning Anna is a great book. It deals with teenagers and the problems they go through in high school. Anna is a very pretty girls and she moves to a new school. At first people like her, the first friend she makes is the most popular girl in school, Hayley Parkin! Haley likes this guy that likes Anna and then everything turns bad. Hayley starts to make fun of Anna because she is jealousof her and makes every one turn against her! This hurts Anna deeply, and she starts cutting herself .She can only take it for so long and eventually it gets so bad that she tries to kill herself . The whole time all this was going on at school she was writing it all down in a journal that she kept. Her parents never even had a clue that she was being tortured at school unstill they were in the hospital with Anna and they read her journal! This book is very well written. At first you hear other people in the book talk about what happened at school like Hayley would be talking about Anna to some other girls and tell them to say things and do things to her in one chapter, then the next chapter will be a journal entry that Anna wrote. It would tell us about what happened at school in detail and expresses how she felt! I recommend this book for any teen reader because you can relate to it whether you have been picked on at school or if you have been the one picking on someone else!

'Drowning Anna' tells the story of a girl who moves to a new school and is befriended by the most popular girl in school named Haylie. Haylie seems to worship the very ground that Anna walks on. Haylie buys Anna gifts and lets her get free tanning and they seem to be best friends until something just broke in their bond of friendship. Haylie suddenly stopped liking Anna. Annas life is turned upside down as the girl who she once shared everything with now makes her fear going to school. Haylie starts making rude comments to Anna, calling her fat, making fun of her hair,of her voice-little things. Then Haylie starts to physically abuse Anna during sporting events and school. Hayley turns the entire school on Anna by spreading rumors about her and telling other people that Anna was talking bad about them. Anna is overwhelmed by this cruelness that has been thrown at her, and her only friend is Melanie, who through-out the book was constantly stabbing Anna in the back by telling Haylie secrets about Anna and her life. Anna starts to lose weight, she changes her voice, and eventually begins cutting herself because of the sense of power she feels when delivering her own pain.Anna becomes obsessed with death and after a fight with Melanie, Anna went home to kill herself. 'Drowning Anna' is told through Annas diary entries and also through the eyes of Melanie. The very first chapter begins with Anna killing herself, but we find out that her mother finds her on the brink of death and rushes her to the hostpital. While waiting in intesive care Annas mother begins to read Anna's diary and discovers the true hell Anna has been living in. I thought that this book was remarkabley depressing but was strangly alluring because of how this beautiful girl who was popular is suddenly in so much anguish she feels the need to kill herself. I remember when I finished this book that I walked out of my room and told my mom that she should read it because of how it would teach her about how much parents don't know about their children and what is happening at schools. My mom just rolled her eyes at me.'Drowning Anna' was a really good book for high school students who feel as if they are 'drowning' in school because no one likes them. But, if you have any suicidal thoughts I reccommend not reading this book because it is incredibly sad and might even make you think that suicide is a good option. 'Drowning Anna' was all in all a good read.

This was a great book. It was so intense at some parts it brought tears to my eyes. I was bullied all through high school, so I can relate to this book very much. Definitely recommend to all high school students, and almost every person can relate to this book at one point or another.

This was a great book and makes you regret ever being mean to someone. It doesnt lie about the cruelty you can find in middle and highschool...there are some things in here that I maybe wouldnt let a younger kid read, but for anyone 12 and up I highly recommend it!

I really liked this book, because it is so close to the truth. It was almost like hearing someone tell me what happened to them. This kind of thing happens all the time and everyone just shruggs it off until it's too late. I have been bulleyed before then I stopped caring about it and the bully stopped, but it doesn't work for everyone. I am still teased but most of the time I laugh it off, but as Anna tried it doesn't always work. This book was captivating and I couldn't put it down.

This book was one of the best books i have read in awhile. It reminded me of the movie 'Mean Girls.' This book however was a little more intense and to the extreme. Cruelty these days is something that eveyone should look at and stop. I know its kinda wierd when a gut read a girls book but I recommend this book to anyone. The main girl Anna was just a girl who had eveything going for her. She had the body every girls wants, the brains of a rocket scienctist. She had it all. Untill she moved to this new town. She met a girl named Haylee who basically adopted Anna as soon as she walked in the school. Like a month later Haylee turned on Anna. Teasing her, hitting her doing anything she could do to make her life a living hell. Well Haylee did just that. Anna finally lost it and over dosed on pills and vodka and ended up in a coma for a day and several hours. Her mom found her on the bathroom floor and found 3 notes. One to her family, one to her best friend Mel, and the other to Haylee. Mel ran the letter to Haylee and returned to the hospital where she found Anna mom outside the room crying. If you want to know what happened to Anna then read this book. I dont want to ruin the ending for you. So like I said read this book. Its worth your time.

I needed a quick read for my English class requirement. My Librarian told me that alot of people enjoyed this book so I thought I'd give it a try. It was a non-stop page turner and extremly easy to read. If you have seen the movie 'Mean Girls' and liked it, you will love this book. It would also be a great book for parents to read who dont understand that tough times that girls go through and how harsh they can be to one another.

This story truly tells what teenage life is like today. The reality of Sue Mayfield's novel tells the whole story. This book is one that I would recommend to any teenager going through the same struggles that Anna went through. I read this book because I thought it looked good, but once you start reading it, it changes the way you think about this specific subject. This story is definitely a must-read.

Have you wondered if high school has changed? Sue Mayfield writes about what goes on these days in Drowning Anna. This fictional story talks about what teenagers go through with relationships, bullying, peer pressure, and suicide. It keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting to read. Drowning Anna involves a young girl who moves to a new school. She becomes friends with a popular girl. They become close friends. As time goes on Hayley and Anna become the best of friends. Hayley surprises Anna with many gifts. Until one day, everything changes. Anna had no idea what had happened. A few days later Haley starts picking on and making fun of Anna. It starts getting real bad. Anna starts hurting herself because she no longer has friends. Haley had turned all her friends against her. She finds a true friend who sticks beside her. It just is too much for Anna Goldsmith. She takes pills and tries to kill herself. She ends up in the hospital. Drowning Anna is a realistic book. Every school encounters bullying. Some teenagers take it way beyond, even to the level of death. If you read this book it would make you think twice before the next time u started to bully somebody around. It made me realize not to just sit back and watch somebody get bullied. You have to stand up and help them out. It could hurt the person deep down. Not only are their emotions getting hurt, but also after a while they start to physically hurt themselves. This book is great for all ages. It actually teaches you what and not to do. Teenage bullying and pressure goes a long way. Drowning Anna showed me how strong bullying is. It had me on the edge of my seat wanting to read on. It was so emotional and real, I actually got mad at the mean character, Haley, for hurting Anna. This book is a great lesson in life.
