Ghodse (addiction studies, St. George's Hospital, London) has updated and revised the 1989 and 1995 editions of his reference for clinicians, counsellors, social workers, policy makers, and other professionals who deal with addition but have no specialized knowledge about it. He has also added a chapter on alcohol, and included references in the text in acknowledgement of the need for evidence- based practice. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
