Overview

He once loved her beyond all reason. Dare he risk heartbreak again?

Leaving her first love behind was the hardest thing Regine, Duchess of Heartwaite, had ever done. Her marriage of convenience to another man saved her family, even as it laid waste to her heart. That was years ago, however. Now widowed, she's ready to begin her life anew. But all it takes is one glimpse of her former sweetheart to realize the feelings she buried so long ago are still there, stronger than ever. Unfortunately, his feelings for her are decidedly colder...

Solicitor James Brentwood has only one mistress these days—his work. Being jilted by his betrothed taught him love simply wasn't worth the cost. But Regine is back in England now, more beautiful and alluring than ever. And it's not long before he begins to feel things he has no business feeling. Especially not for her. Not again.

But when a nemesis intent on destroying Regine emerges, it's James who must come to her rescue. Can they overcome their differences and painful past to claim their happily ever after? Or will their second chance at love end as disastrously as their first?

This reunited lovers, second chance historical by a USA Today bestselling author, will have you sighing and reaching for the tissues as you wait to see what James and Regine will do.

Regine married the Duke of Heartwaite to save her family, but in the process she broke the heart of her true love. She is now a widow and back in London where she runs into the man that she never stopped loving. Is this their second chance? When Regine broke James' heart all those years ago, he gave up on love. But with her back in his life, he can't deny that his feelings for her never changed. Does he dare to open his heart again to the woman that broke it the first time? Loved this story!! Reunion stories are always one of my favorites and Cameron hit it out of the park with this one!! If you are looking for a quick, feel good read, then this is the one for you!!

James Brentwood and Regine Edenshaw had been friends and sweethearts since childhood. Eight years ago they were very much in love and were to be married as soon as she was out of mourning for her father, but she broke his heart when she married an elderly (wealthy) duke. She tries to explain her reasons to him, but young, angry, and hurt, James refuses to listen. When her mother dies, Regine, now a widow, returns to London with her younger sister Juliette. She and James meet accidentally and talk. The feelings are still there, but will it make a difference? This is a lovely Valentine’s Day story. James and Regine are wonderful characters and so much alike. They are both dedicated to and protective of those they love. It might not be easy to get past their broken hearts, but their sisters and friends are determined to help them find a second chance at happiness. I enjoyed this heartwarming story. It is a truly Happy Valentine.

I enjoyed this quick read. Regine and James had been in love. Circumstances ripped them apart. Now was their second chance at love. The sacrifices that Regine made were great, and I loved her dedication to family and friends. I also loved how James was growly one moment and then protective and caring the next while he worked his way through his true feelings. I felt the love and pain of these two and breathed a sigh of relief at the end. I recommend this story. I received an ARC of this story, and this is my unsolicited review.

A second chance at love that weaves a spell around you Collette Cameron is famous for with her wonderful words and characters. Having been young and in love, only wanting to marry, Regine and James had that torn from them. She had made the decision to marry for money since she, her mother and sister were left with horrible debt at the death of her father. Of course it had broken her heart but James would not even give her the chance to explain. Now back in London, eight years later she sees him sitting in a coffee shop. She knew she should walk on put "Piffle and twaddle. Regine wasn't a shrinking violet. Never had been. A swift Hello and, How are you? ought to suffice." Needless to say, she could not take her eyes off him and sitting down at his table he could only give her an icy stare. Is there hope for these two? He had always been close in her thoughts. What had he felt? Really enjoyed this story as all of this series and cannot wait for more! Lori D

Prepare to fall in love with the characters in this latest addition to Collette Cameron’s Seductive Scoundrels series. Regine sacrificed herself several years earlier when she married an aged Duke after her father died and left her mother, sisters and herself debt-ridden. She gave up the love of her life to do so. They meet again after she is widowed and James, her former sweetheart, has successfully established himself as a lawyer. This novella-length, well written, second chance at love work held my interest from the beginning until the last page was read. I had a smile on my face throughout. A sweet, clean romance with a mild heat level. A perfect read for Valentines' Day or anytime. I was provided an advance copy of this work and offer this voluntary review. All opinions stated are my own.

Another "couldn't put it down" from Ms Cameron. Regine and James were unofficially betrothed before her father died and left the family destitute. No longer able to marry her true love, Regine marries for the protection of her family and leaves her heart behind. Broken-hearted James buries himself in his work, swearing off love ever again. Now widowed, Regine returns to England and runs into James. Can these two maintain their distance and keep up their coldness towards each other? Or is it time for true love to finally have its day. Highly recommend.
