Nine years after the Yuletide slasher flick Black Christmas, Porky's director Bob Clark once again took on the holiday genre, switching from gasps to laughs with A Christmas Story. Adapted from a memoir by humorist Jean Shepherd (who narrates), the film centers on Ralphie Parker (Peter Billingsley), a young boy living in 1940s Indiana, desperately yearning for a Red Rider BB gun for Christmas. Despite protests from his mother (Melinda Dillon) that he'll shoot his eye out, Ralphie persists, unsuccessfully trying to enlist the assistance of both his teacher and Santa Claus. All the while, Ralphie finds himself dealing with the constant taunts of a pair of bullies and trying to not get in the middle of a feud between his mother and father (Darren McGavin) regarding a sexy lamp.

This is my favorite Christmas Movie. However, be warned. If you're thinking of buying the 2-disc 20th anniversary edition because you want a widescreen version of this movie then don't buy it. The ¿widescreen version¿ is actually a cut down version of the already cut down ¿standard version¿ of the movie. So, if you watch this disc's ¿widescreen version¿ you'll see even less of the movie. Just buy the cheeper DVD and save $'s.
This movie is so great and hilarious.
A classic that's fun all year round. Few films hold up as well as this one. It's hilarious every time you see it. Warm, funny, cute, sweet and entertaining to watch any time of the year. This special edition is great, there are a ton of well produced extras that fans will love.
Seller was great. Helped me locate package when it got held up in mail. Would recommend to everyone
Love It! Love it! Love It! This is a great movie. Not the best for younger children ( because of swearing). I love " Ohhhhhhh Fuuuuddddgggggeee"! Lol.
This movie is not onl funny but is one of the most cheerful movies that will undoubtably get you in holiday spirit.
Hands down the best Christmas movie ever. It's basically part of the holiday season.
I have enjoyed watching this movie for many, many years. It is a tradition to pop this movie in the vcr the day after Thanksgiving and watch it while bringing out the Christmas decorations. It really gives you a boost into the Christmas spirit. Although, I do perfer the traditional turkey over the Chinese roast duck!
Long time family tradition. I Thought we were alone! Well I'm not supposed to reveal a bunch in the movie if I want this posted. But I recommend it for anyone who can handle any sort of intelligent humor hehe! => It's one of the few Christmas movies that's a true comedy and doesn't force in a corny ending. Enjoy it!
This gets great reviews, but everyone I know, can't stand this movie, including myself. I am not sure what it is that I do not like but I would not recommend it to anyone.
I along with most everyone I know love this movie. It is a rollercoaster ride of fun and the laughs never stop.Ralphy gives me a feeling of what my parents were like when they were kids.
Each year on Christmas Eve one of the cable stations runs a ''Christmas Story'' marathon...they show it over and over... each year I watch it maybe 10 times...and laugh harder each time I see it!!!
This movie has been a tradition in my family for 16 years. Almost every year I have watched this movie with my Grandfather, and it is amazing how he can relate scene-by-scene. This proves how authentic the story, the characters, scenery and setting are. Insead of cliched Hollywood fluff this movie is historically accurate and true to the heart.
This movie is the BOMB!! I love it so much I even watch it in the summer. If I could I would give it a 20 star rating.
I have seen this movie no less than 20 times and I love it just the same each time. It is one that I will have memorized and still enjoy. Lots of humor and ''real life'' in it....stuff you can relate to. Wonderful...I am buying it today.
I suggest this movie to anyone
Every Sunday in December when our TV guide comes in the paper, I start looking to see when A Chrismas Story will be on. The nights it's on, I tell my husband that we have to watch Ralphie. He always asks me ''aren't you tired of that movie yet'' and every response is, ''I can never get tired of A Christmas Story''. I now can recite most of the lines in this silly movie. Kudos to TNT for the 24 hour marathon.
As a high school teacher, the day we leave for Thanksgiving break is hectic indeed. By the time I get home all I want to do is collapse in a chair. Our family tradition however, is to watch 'A Christmas Story' that afternoon, we have held off Christmas to this point, and have Thanksgiving ready to go, so we don't feel we have cheated Thanksgiving in any way. My children, now 18, 16 and 14 sit with us and watch this movie. They know it well enough to quote many parts, but they love it just the same. What a wonderful way to spend the evening, with family gathered close!
Good movie for whole family to see, except a little bad language. Remarkably funny. Two thumbs up. If you have not seen this movie rent it now. Even if it is not Christmas time you'll love and may die laughing.
This is an adorable movie. The way in which it is narrated from the adult about his childhood filled with funny mishaps is the cutest thing. This is a christmas classic comedy that will surely have you laughing. Another recommendation I have would be the book, ''The Little Guide To Happiness''. This book is filled with insights and wisdoms on how to be joyful. Perfect stocking stuffer for this holiday season.
My family loves watching this movie every Christmas. You will laugh as Ralphie tries to convience his parents,Santa, and his teacher about the wonderful gift a Red Ridger BB Gun would make for Christmas, but everywhere he turns he hears the same answer. You'll shoot your eye out!!
This is our family favorite. Good for all ages, except those who would be shocked by a Santa who is just a touch sadistic!! Though our family is full of grown ups now, the ''kids'', Mom, & Dad, still enjoy watching this together!
