Strictly speaking, the adventure series Airwolf only enjoyed three seasons (1984, 1984-85, and 1985-86) during its initial CBS run. After this, however, the program jumped ship and briefly resurfaced on cable television's USA Network during the summer of 1987 - when it racked up the 24 additional episodes necessary to constitute a fourth season. In this new venue, significant changes took place: most prominently, the entire original cast, including Jan Michael-Vincent, Ernest Borgnine and Alex Cord, dropped out, replaced by a new (and less famous) ensemble, including Barry Van Dyke, Anthony Sherwood and Michele Scarabelli. The storyline also changed to accommodate the cast modifications: iDominic Santini (Borgnine) died in an explosion, Hawke (Vincent) was severely injured in the first installment (and thereafter disappeared from the proceedings) and Archangel (Cord) suddenly got reassigned overseas. The first story found freewheeling young agent Mike Rivers (Geraint Wyn Davies) leading a covert mission to rescue Stringfellow's brother St. John (Barry Van Dyke), who was M.I.A. in Vietnam; after this, St. John returned to the States and began to lead missions with the titular high-tech helicopter, keeping the machine hidden from "The Company" (a new name for the organization that was originally called 'The Firm' in the program). All 24 original Season Four episodes appear, full and complete as they originally aired, in this comprehensive set. The cast of Season Four also includes Michele Scarabelli, Anthony Sherwood and William B. Davis.
