The first half of Season 3 continues the brilliance of Season 2--the integration of Fred into the crew, and Andy Hallet's Lorne becomes a larger and larger presence within The Fang Gang. The bringing-forward of Keith Szarabajka's Daniel Holtz (who had made a couple of appearances in Season 2) gives Angel the first true season-long enemy he's had in the series. When Laurel Holloman joins Szarabajka as his fellow vampire hunter Justine...there's almost a Spike/Drusilla feel to them. The first part of Season 3 is highlighted by Julie Benz' return as a very pregnant--and very angry--Darla. Darla's sacrifice in 'Lullaby' becomes the first stepping stone for the rest of Season 3--the introduction of Connor, Wes' subsequent betrayal of Angel, Cordy having to decide between Groo and Angel, Connor's return from the hell dimension and his betrayal of Angel at the end of the season. Of course, all this also leads into Season 4, but that'll get dissected elsewhere. Season 3 lost the series' mojo, to a certain extent. Part of it might have been a feeling in the storyline that the crew couldn't get a win. But the storyline came from Joss Whedon, and I've always wondered if the lack of focus that began to plague the continuity came from Whedon's obsession with making 'Firefly' a success. Why get this set? Boreanaz as Angel, adjusting to fatherhood and falling for Cordelia. Charisma Carpenter as Cordy--suddenly realizing she has feelings for Angel, but also torn when Groo comes over from Pylea. Amy Acker's Fred--and her overexplanations. Szarabajka and Holloman, plotting intricate torture on Angel. Vincent Kartheiser's angry, feral Connor. Stephanie Romanov's Lilah Morgan--proving evil can really have great legs.

This season allowed the actors to really show their talent. There is some really good acting in this season. The writers also took greater risks (that worked well).

This is a great season! Finally, Angel and Cordelia admit their feelings to each other!!! What a awful shame she did not return for season 5!!! I don't even watch the show anymore because of that! She has the best comic relief on the show!!! Miss you Charisma!!! Please come back!!!

Season three of Angel is my personal favorite season of this popular show. Good eps are Carpe Noctem, That Vision Thing, Birthday, Waiting in the Wings, and Tommorrow. In this season, Angel admits to himself that he's in love with Cordelia (Birthday) and the beautiful episode that was Waiting in the Wings. Groo also makes a comeback, completing the love triangle that Joss Whedon nursed for the second half of the season. This is also the season of Connor, leading from his birth to his abduction and Wesley's betrayal, to his return when he makes a betrayal of his own. A lot of angst, it sets up the storyline that leads into season four, Cordy's last season (**cry**) but overall, a GREAT buy!
