What I don't get is how this genius show, probably the best I've EVER seen, wins the best comedy series Emmy in its first season yet has to fight to get picked up for a second season due to ratings.... watch it people. It's brilliant!

I never gave this show a shot while it was on TV so I figured I'd pick up the boxed-set to see what all the hype was about. I'm sorry to say I was disappointed. There are some funny jokes, but the show is peopled with caricatures instead of characters. I really didn't care what happened to anybody. The scenes seem short since the show really just goes from joke to joke. I didn't really get to know anybody. It's all constructed very well, but there's really not much heart to it. It really is very well written, I just wish it was more than a collection of clever jokes.

Original is the best word to describe this show. And honest. And damn funny.

You get the point. Watch it. Now.

This is the kind of show my grandma wouldn't have understood...Which makes me love it all the more...it is slightly subversive, always outrageous and the satire is so biting it leaves marks. To other reviewers, they were never looking for lovable characters with 'heart'...that isn't what this is about. If you like comedy that makes a mockery of human foibles, this is for you....where else can you find Liza Minnelli playing a woman with vertigo?

Yes, all the hype is TRUE. This really is the best comedy on TV right now. One of the best ever, in fact. Jason Bateman and the rest of the ensemble cast are outstanding. The writing is smart, original and consistenly funny. Everything about this show from its visual style to the way the cast delivers the hilarious dialogue is truly unique. It just really defies description, there is nothing else like it on television. The DVD set does justice to this great show. A definite no brainer as a purchase. Set back and enjoy Season 1 over and over (you will, this is one of the few shows that begs and rewards repeat viewings) and watch Season two on Fox this fall and support a brilliant show.

Arrested Development was one of those rare television shows that truly broke the mold, and in doing so, created a genre unto itself. Similar to 'The Office', the cinematography led you to believe you were watching hidden cameras showing you people behaving as they normally do -- quite different from the staged look and laugh tracks that usually accompany sitcoms. The dialogue, while sometimes a bit contrived, rewards the intelligent viewer who is paying close attention "similar to 'Scrubs' in this regard". Furthermore, unlike the other programs that were accompanying this show on Fox's Sunday night lineup "Family Guy, Simpsons, etc.", you could not attain the full enjoyment from this show by just sitting down and catching any half-hour episode. I started watching toward the end of the first season, and since going back and catching up, it's amazing how much more of the dialogue takes on new "and hilarious" meaning.. While it's a shame this show didn't survive any longer, I highly recommend grabbing the DVD set, starting from the first episode, and enjoying this great show. Review by Robert H. Once you start watching Arrested Development you can't look away. It's just that crazy! Which, of course, makes it one of the best TV shows ever created. Right now my favorite character is Gob, with his chicken imitation, but that could change at any time. All I can say is WATCH IT!!! No words can fully describe this roller coaster comedy so WATCH IT!!!

Although all seasons of this show are fabulous- Season 1 is definitely AD at it's finest. One of the greatest parts about this brilliant show is the continuity of the jokes- which is why it is best to start with season 1 if you are able to. It definitely enhances the laugh factor for the following season "although flashbacks are present" and you really appreciate the love and effort that went into this series. There are so many hilarious subtle details to this show that you are able to watch episodes over and over again and laugh just as hard as you did watching it the first time. As my headline stated- it's the kind of humor that you either get or don't, although I haven't found one person "after making them sit and watch an entire episode" who has not fallen in love with this show. The entire cast is amazing and Michael Cera is definitely a young actor to watch out for "although I feel his best work was done in Season 3". I couldn't even pick any stand outs in the cast because it's the best work I've seen from any of them- Jessica Walters, Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Tony Hale, Will Arnett, David Cross- not to mention the awesome guest stars. One of the greatest shows to grace the television and puts all the other content out there to shame.

Arrested development is an excellent example of how a group of intelligent and creative people (actors, writers, creators, producers) can demostrate that television is a medium with great possibilities. This series is funny, original, smart and unlike anything that´s ever been done on television. After watching Arrested you find yourself wondering why there aren´t more series like this one on television.

I love this show. I still cannot decide which character is my favorite, with each scene I found myself thinking "Oh, _____ is surely my favorite character." The show was well written and witty, though I have heard one person refer to the show as vulgar and on a "3rd grade level," so it's not for everyone. This is one of those series you can watch over and over again and never get tired of, and also pick up new little jokes you did not hear the first time. This series is lighthearted humor. And, many can relate to "having a crazy family." I can only hope the rumored movie will be made with haste and retain the humor of the series.

this is without a doubt the funniest show on tv. I don't understand why no one watches it. It's been nominated for so many awards in the past two years.

Yeah, that's a strong title and i stand by it. This show was incredibly clever and engaging. The wit is and has never been matched on television, which is probably why it didn't last. It certainly didn't stoop to the level most TV does these days for cheap laughs. Fantastic ensemble cast and great writing. I wouldn't recommend the show to just anyone because it's not everyone's sense of humor, but it is brilliant and witty. And it certainly left a void on TV when it left.

It boggles my mind that this show is struggling. The writing is genius and everyone on screen is a master of comic timing. It easily outshines every other sitcom going.

this is the best show on television currently. nothing can compare to Arrested's humor, wit, and intelligence. i am very saddened that more people watch garbage like 'According to Jim', and neglect this beautifully written, sophisticatedly-shot comedy. Buy it immediately, and you will enjoy.

Reminiscent of Soap, but more intelligent. Miss a minute & you could completely miss the funniest bit of any episode. Sometimes you may even miss them while watching intently. You'll see what I mean...
