Overview

Bambi

The classic Felix Salter story Bambi provides the basis for this near-perfect Disney animated feature. We follow the male deer Bambi from birth, through his early childhood experiences with woodland pals Thumper the rabbit and Flower the skunk, the traumatic sudden death of Bambi's mother at the hands of hunters, his courtship of the lovely doe Faline, and his rescue of his friends during a raging forest fire; we last see the mature, antlered Bambi assuming his proper place as the Prince of the Forest. In the grand Disney tradition, Bambi is brimming with unforgettable sequences, notably the young deer's attempts to negotiate an iced-over pond, and most especially the death of Bambi's mother--and if this moment doesn't move you to tears, you're made of stone (many subsequent Disney films, including Lion King, have tried, most in vain, to match the horror and pathos of this one scene). The score in Bambi yielded no hits along the lines of "Whistle While You Work," but the songs are adroitly integrated into the action. Bambi was the last of the "classic" early Disney features before the studio went into a decade-long doldrums of disjointed animated pastiches like Make Mine Music.

Hard times will happen to us all. It's not if, but when. This movie shows children that hard times can happen through no fault of our own and that they can be over come. Some lessons in this movie are- to honor the value of friendship, team work and loyalty. In a world where people isolate and forget the value of friendship, this is a good reminder that friendship comes in all sizes, shapes and forms. Even the smallest and humblest of friends can help us feel better in a big way. Good job Disney!

Bambi 1. Saw the movie when very young; and several times in recent years. This DVD seemed the same as the first time I watched movie.

I think that this movie is great for kids because of all of the cute animals and adventure. Plus, it is on the short side so little ones won't get bored! Another thing is that adults can appreciate the themes and emotions that occur in this movie. So really, it is great for the whole family!

I remember listening and reading along with the Bambi LP-record & book when I was child. And how my imagination took hold of the sounds, and images of the book (never saw the movie prior). Now for my own children, and in all it's glory, a digitally enhanced version of a story that I loved as a child! The metaphors, if not parallels, to life, and the real world are endlessly and vividly captured in this epic, and when Disney animation was at it's finest. I'm also warmed to see that my own children enjoy it as much as I did, and looking forward to their children enjoying it as well. Interestingly enough, as a parent, I've long since come to understand just what the ending of the movie symbolizes.

This movie has everything in it that any movie lover could ever want. It has action, romance, moral lessons, and death. the animation in the movie was unmatched until Titan A.E. was released. The only movie I like better than this is Life as a House. Cause I like metaphors in titles.

So there was really someone on the planet over the age of 15 that didn't know Bambi's mother got shot? If you think all the other Disney flicks condone and glorify matricide why didn't you preview? Like it or not, this is a Disney classic. Its light on story and plot but is blessedly short. My 3 year old loves to pick out all the different animals and make all the animal sounds. Yes, Bambi's mom gets killed, but I explained to my 3 year old that just like her very own Grandma, Bambi's mommy went to heaven.

Why is it that every Disney cartoon I see, seems to condone matricide? This story was horrible. My 3year old cried and cried when we realize that Bambis mother was shot. This movie was marketed as a feel good childrens story, and frankly I don't see it. If you don't want to answer questions about death from a child, don't buy this. I know I wasn't ready.
