Any young child adores this movie. From the time Barney appears on the screen tll the end credits they are mesmorized by the fun songs and kind charactors. Plus they learn great morals.

Our three-year-old loves this movie and often asks for it specifically. It's one of those that we really don't mind because it has so much visual variety, as well as occasional jokes that only grown-ups will get. The production values are really excellent, not quite Star Wars but far more than you'd expect from watching the TV series. Listen for the opening theme sung beautifully by Tony-winner Bernadette Peters, and a generally above-average music score throughout. The storyline, about a mysterious egg that comes from a Wishing Star and contains a ''Dream Maker'' -- well, you just have to go along with the fantasy. The theme is ''imagination'' and one could even view the film as having multiple levels of reality, if one wanted to get deep about it. But that's surely not necessary to enjoy the movie. It is occasionally very silly, but has lots of above-average choreography and conveys wonderfully positive messages about relationships as well as personal growth for kids. The actors are all at least in grade school, but the story appeals to our toddler, who seems to follow the storyline pretty well. If nothing else, one should own this movie for the chance to see Barney in a tuxedo, scat-singing in a jazz rendition of ''If all the raindrops were lemon drops, etc.'' There's a circus in it, marching band, a guitar-playing dog -- hey, what more can you ask for!
